Removing all of these apps only amounts to 150MB of freed up storage. But it is helpful if you like keeping your homescreen clean.

If you remove Contacts, you won't lose that information — it'll all be stored in the Phone app. Also, the News app won't be removable until a later version of the beta.

“I’ve never been ‘out’. But today I stand proudly and publicly with my siblings of all genders around the world.” LGBT people tell BuzzFeed News why the massacre prompted them to speak out.

This is Ashley Connick. He's a 28-year-old lawyer, who lives in the United Arab Emirates with his wife of three years. Yesterday, shortly after the Orlando attack, he came out as bisexual.

Instagram

"Looking at the news yesterday made me so profoundly sad about the invasion of the sanctity of a safe place," said Connick. "And it made me feel as though it was really important for a little bit more visibility and for people to understand that everybody needs to be safe, and that everywhere there are people who are affected and who are part of this community."

He added that he wanted to convey the idea that the LGBT community "is bigger and wider" than many realise, to stop "bigots being able to marginalise the community".

The mass murder in the early hours of Sunday morning of 50 people in the LGBT Pulse nightclub in Orlando triggered a deep response in Connick. "I felt so connected to it, that I thought it was time."

He said he wanted to make it known that "I felt more connected than perhaps would have been immediately apparent".

He posted this picture on Instagram, too, with the words "Truly saddened by the senseless killings in #Orlando".

In Outback Australia, A Housing Crisis Hits The Indigenous Population Extra Hard

$

Delores Dingo is standing in the small dining area of a nondescript house on the outskirts of South Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia explaining how living here saved the life of her and her grandchildren.

Allan Clarke / BuzzFeed

"This is the place where everyone can get help, immediate help. If I didn’t come here I would be on the waiting list [for housing] and homeless and in danger. I would probably be going from house to house to house, without a place to be stable," Dingo tells BuzzFeed News.

Bunyara Maya Hostel is the only general crisis accommodation centre in Port Hedland and South Hedland catering for Aboriginal families. But it's now due to close its doors within the next fortnight after failing to secure funding from the federal government. Nineteen people, including several children, will be left homeless.

"The tenants need to be out by June 24 so we can get the building ready to hand back to the department of housing and give the keys back," Bunyara Maya manager Niki White told BuzzFeed News.

"Some will go to 2 Mile, an open area out the back of South Hedland. Basically, they'll camp there, it's like a shantytown," White said.

The closure highlights the chronic homelessness and poverty facing the Aboriginal population of the Pilbara, a region that has fuelled Australia's economy over the past decade with billions of dollars in iron ore production.

The hostel is just a 15-minute drive from where bulk carriers are loaded with millions of dollars worth of iron ore.

"It’s a big issue in this region and it's terrible to think we’ve been through one of the biggest booms this country has ever had, yet there are so many people who’ve missed out," local Labor member in the Western Australian parliament, Stephen Dawson, told BuzzFeed News.

Stephen Dawson in the centre.

Allan Clarke / BuzzFeed

Dawson says that as the mining boom comes to an end, the area has hundreds of abandoned houses once used for "fly in, fly out" workers that could help solve the problem.

"Because the boom has subsided there are hundreds and hundreds of houses that are laying vacant and owned by mining companies and if they wanted to they could hand them over to NGOs to manage to enable us to tackle chronic overcrowding and housing issues."

"We have about 100 Aboriginal people and families on the priority waiting list who are destitute, who’ve got serial illnesses, people fleeing domestic violence. If you’re on the main list you’ve probably been waiting eight or nine years to access a place, if you’re on the priority list you can wait two years, so what it means in the meantime is you’ve got chronic overcrowding," Dawson said.

Allan Clarke / BuzzFeed

Public housing is primarily the domain of state governments but Dawson told BuzzFeed News the unfolding crisis needs to be part of the federal government's mandate to close the widening health and life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and should be front and centre during the election campaign.

"The federal government has vacated the field on homelessness. I think it's an issue that needs to be tackled by the states and feds together. It’s simply not good enough for them to say it’s a state issue.

"They speak about closing the gap but really we’re seeing little action in that space."

Allan Clarke / BuzzFeed

Dingo takes a sip of tea and says that she is one of the lucky ones, Bunyara Maya gave her family a safe place to stay while her housing application was processed.

"When I was in a situation where I was homeless me and my grandkids came here for a home and a safe haven and it’s an asset for everyone in the community," Dingo said.

"I feel for those who live here and don’t have somewhere to go when the doors close."

Two Men Kissed In An Uber And Were Called "Disgusting"

A man says he was kicked out of an Uber and called "disgusting" after starting to kiss a male friend on the way home from karaoke in Melbourne, Australia.

Drew Ezell

Drew Ezell, 28, told BuzzFeed News he had been doing karaoke with friends at the Laird Hotel in Melbourne before ordering the Uber home at 12.45am on Tuesday morning.

After getting into the Uber, Ezell and his friend started to kiss as the driver headed down Melbourne's Hoddle Street.

"We heard the Uber driver go, ‘Oh, that’s disgusting,'" Ezell said.

Facebook: drew.ezell

"We stopped, looked up, and he pulled off to the side of the road on Hoddle Street. I fired back and said, ‘No, what we’re doing is not disgusting. What’s disgusting is what you’re doing right now.'"

Ezell said the driver told the pair to get out of the car, saying, "I refuse to drive disgusting people like you."

"How dare you say my life is disgusting?" Ezell wrote on Facebook. "I am a human being, I have every right to live my life, to love the people I do, to not be afraid to kiss the person I want just because they are a man."

A spokesperson for Uber told BuzzFeed News: "The account of the driver involved in the alleged incident has been put on hold while we investigate further."

Adam Berry / Getty Images

"Uber does not tolerate any form of discrimination, and we have been in contact with this rider to offer our support," the spokesperson said.

Uber also issued a full refund for the trip.

The incident comes just over a week after two women in a relationship were called "faggots" and threatened by an Uber driver, also in Melbourne.

Ezell linked the Uber incident to the mass shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that occurred on Sunday night. He referenced shooter Omar Mateen's father, who said his son was made "very angry" by the sight of two men kissing.

Dan Himbrechts / AAPIMAGE

"I had that quote stuck in my head from the shooter’s dad," he told BuzzFeed News. "I felt a little bit afraid.

"It was a small moment of fear, and it passed. And then I went back to feeling angry. And a little sad. Angry that I now live in a world where the thought that me kissing someone might lead to the death of others."

Emily told BuzzFeed News that about four days ago, she noticed a poison ivy rash on her arm.

She wasn't sure how she contracted the rash, but said she and a friend go fishing together and take care of feral cats.

It wasn't too concerning to her. She said she's had poison ivy rashes in the past.

On Sunday night, Emily said she noticed "little red bumps" on her eyes. When she woke up on Monday, she couldn’t open her eyes. She looked into her bathroom mirror and burst into tears at the sight of her swollen face.
