This Teacher Shared An Emotional Discussion She Had With Her Class About Terence Crutcher
“I share this story because we are creating an identity crisis in all of our black and brown students.”
Teachers at KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory decided to address the news surrounding Terence Crutcher, an unarmed black man who was shot and killed by police earlier this week in their community, with their students. Crutcher’s child currently attends the school.
In a lengthy Facebook post that's gone viral, one of the teachers, Rebecca Lee, explained that she and other teachers felt they "needed to press pause and create a space for kids to share their thoughts and feelings."
The post has since been shared over 150,000 times.
In it, Lee wrote that the idea was to facilitate open discussions about the incident among students in her fifth, sixth, and seventh/eighth grade classes.
"If you can put yourself in the shoes of a child of color in Tulsa right now, you will have a clearer understanding of the crisis we're facing and why we say 'Black Lives Matter'," she wrote.
She asked students to read articles about Crutcher's fatal shooting and highlight words and statements that resonated with them.
After reading the articles, Lee said her 10 and 11-year-old students had only more questions: "Why did they have to kill him? Why were they afraid of him?"
She wrote that students started to think, and ask questions, about Crutcher's daughter, and what will happen to her:
What will she do at father daughter dances? Who will walk her down the aisle? Why did no one help him after he was shot? Hasn't this happened before? Can we write her cards? Can we protest?"
A US Fitness Magazine Put A Hijabi Woman On Its Cover And People Are Psyched
She’s a marathoner from Michigan and a total badass.
This is Rahaf Khatib, a marathoner from Michigan who is believed to be the first hijabi woman ever to appear on the cover of a US fitness magazine.
James Farrell / Women’s Running Magazine
Women's Running editor-in-chief Jessie Sebor told BuzzFeed Health via email that the magazine discovered Khatib when she reached out to them.
"She emailed us citing a lack of Muslim hijabi women represented in women’s magazines and challenged us to change that. We couldn’t help but hear her," she said.
Even though Khatib calls herself “an average (but persistent!) runner,” she has finished a cool five marathons.
Instagram: @www.instagram.com/runlikeahijabi/?hl=en / Via instagram.com
Originally from Damascus, Syria, Khatib, 32, moved to the US in the 1980s and now lives in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with her husband and their three kids.
BuzzFeed Health reached Khatib in Berlin, where she’s getting ready to run her sixth marathon. When asked how her cover came to be, she said that she didn’t “in a million years” expect a response to her email to Women’s Running.
But within a couple days, Khatib was booked to be included in the magazine’s roundup of women who are changing the face of running, and shortly thereafter was invited to be featured on the cover.
“We love everything she stands for: Pushing yourself, challenging stereotypes, and motivating others along the way,” said Sebor.

I Re-Created Selena Gomez's Instagrams And Didn't Feel Cool Enough
Call me SelNINA.
Hey guys, Nina here. This is me on Instagram. I will fully admit to being vain AF, and I've tried to cultivate a ~cute and cool~ aesthetic. But if I want to play in the big leagues, I figured I'd have to take cues from the most followed person on Instagram: Selena Gomez!
Selena's Instagram aesthetic is actually kind of hard to pin down. She has cute photos, artsy photos, low-quality pics, high-quality ads, videos...everything! So I decided to take some well-liked pictures and re-create them!
Now, I knew that acting like Selena on Instagram wouldn't suddenly get me millions of followers, but perhaps trying to re-create her shots would let me vicariously live her incredible celebrity life! Maybe.
1. The "#Ad That's So Freakin' Glam You Forget It's an #Ad" shot.
My re-creation:
FYI, this is the most liked photo on Instagram. It actually turned out better than I thought it would. It's kind of a cool beauty shot. I'm not fancy enough to drink Coke out of a glass bottle, so I went with a more accessible can of Coke Zero. I did have a really hard time re-creating what her mouth is doing though, because despite the fact it's open, the straw isn't actually inside it. It's some weird optical illusion shit. People responded very well to this picture, so perhaps taking a step outside my Instacomfort zone was worth it.

I Drank Butter Coffee For A Month And It Was More Magical Than I Expected
And also it wasn’t gross.
Taylor Miller / Alice Mongkongllite / BuzzFeed
Hi, I'm Sally. For six weeks this summer I started my day with a frothy, oily mug of butter coffee.
Butter coffee is made by combining brewed coffee, butter, and coconut oil (or a derivative of coconut oil) and blending it in a blender.
Sally Tamarkin / BuzzFeed News
When you look into butter coffee's benefits, you get a bunch of people who basically describe feeling like Bradley Cooper in Limitless.
People drink butter coffee for lasting energy with no crash, accelerated calorie burning, and a mental boost.
And even though I'm not one of those people who's really into experimenting with tiny tweaks that might result in a few more minutes of sleep or a few more calories burned or a few more nutrients absorbed, I am one of those people who's persuaded (with a side of skepticism) by "this changed my entire life" testimonials.
