What Happened When NYU Students Discovered They Could Email 40,000 People At Once

One student's accidental “reply all” on an archaic Listserve system led to the discovery that practically any NYU student could bombard nearly 40,000 other students with email.

It all started with a simple email encouraging New York University students to opt for the paperless, electronic delivery of their 1098-T tuition form this year.

Unsure of what he should do, sophomore Max Wiseltier figured he should probably ask his mom for advice. But his harmless inquiry, "do you want me to do this?" was inadvertently sent to every single student at NYU on the list — all 39,979 of them — prompting a campus-wide discovery that any student could "Reply All" with whatever they wanted.

National Geographic just released a short, fantastic video of a cheetah:

It was filmed using a super-slow-motion Phantom camera, and it's mesmerizing:

Almost as cool as the footage is the way it was captured:

Almost as cool as the footage is the way it was captured:

Says Nat Geo: "Combining the resources of National Geographic and the Cincinnati Zoo, and drawing on the skills of a Hollywood action movie crew, we documented these amazing cats in a way that’s never been done before.

Using a Phantom camera filming at 1200 frames per second while zooming beside a sprinting cheetah, the team captured every nuance of the cat’s movement as it reached top speeds of 60+ miles per hour.

The extraordinary footage that follows is a compilation of multiple runs by five cheetahs during three days of filming."

The Fort Greene, Brooklyn, bunch that rocked PBS has come a long way since their days wearing flair pens and solving mysteries at Zora Neale Hurston Middle School.

Blaze Berdahl (Lenni Frazier)

Blaze Berdahl (Lenni Frazier)

Playing the free-spirited latchkey kid Lenni who lived with her musician dad in a loft, Berdahl/Lenni also made the best music video you'd ever seen.

IRL, Berdahl graduated from Bucknell University in 2002 with a double major in economics and poli sci. Her LinkedIn page lists her as a "voice-over actress and announcer." She got married in 2007.

Sheldon Turnipseed (Jamal Jenkins)

Sheldon Turnipseed (Jamal Jenkins)

Other than having the Best Name Ever, Sheldon, now 34, appears to have dropped off the radar entirely. Even though he totally cracked the case of the THABTOs onscreen, his Wikipedia page is bare, and there's a rumor he attended NYU in 2002. Maybe he's still embarrassed from wearing this outfit on national television.

Mayteana Morales (Gaby Fernandez)

After graduating from (yep) NYU in 2003, Gaby hung up her pen necklace for good and joined the band The Pimps of Joytime.

David Lopez (Alex Fernandez)

Lopez played the cute detective-novel reading brother of Gaby, whose parents owned a bodega. He was born in Queens and raised in Colombia, and he was rumored to be attending Rutgers University, although according to this photo posted on the Internet, he might be working as a waiter.

Johnny Football is so good, he makes women tingle when the football flies. He even inspired a very well done but terrifyingly creepy tribute song.

Going to go try and re-attach the skin that crawled off my body now.
