Kenneth Bae, a Washington state resident, is accused of trying to establish an anti-Pyongyang base in North Korea.

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- North Korea says an American citizen sentenced to 15 years hard labor has started life at a "special prison."

No other details were immediately available Wednesday about Kenneth Bae. Pyongyang said earlier this week that Bae informed his family on Friday that he couldn't appeal his April 30 sentence and that he asked his family to urge Washington to push for his amnesty.

Washington has called for Bae's release.

The man who plays Roger Sterling is making his directorial debut . Philip Seymour Hoffman will also star in the movie.

Christina Hendricks and John Slattery are partnering up once again.

Slattery announced on Wednesday the official start of his debut as a feature film director. The four-time Emmy nominee is getting behind the camera to adapt the 1983 novel God's Pocket, by Pete Dexter. Philip Seymour Hoffman will take the lead, with John Turturro, Richard Jenkins and Hendricks co-starring.

Slattery will only be directing, not acting.

The book is set in a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia, where the stepson of a local named Mickey is killed in a construction site accident. Mickey tries to bury the evidence, but a local columnist begins to poke around, which only leads to domestic and legal drama.

Slattery has directed five episodes of Mad Men, including two this season. The book he's adapting sounds as far away as possible from the penthouse of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, but Sterling has experience with working class material, having just starred as a logger in the independent film Bluebird, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month.

Hendricks is currently filming another actor's directorial debut: Ryan Gosling's How to Catch a Monster.

Hendricks and Slattery, of course, have quite a history when it comes to working together.

It’s not as bad as it sounds!

A black lab named "Pep" was sentenced to life without parole by Pennsylvania Governor Gifford Pinchot for reportedly killing his wife's favorite cat.

He even got a mugshot:

While that sounds horrible, legend has it the dog was actually put in the prison to act a morale booster for the prisoners. Basically, Pep didn't kill any cats. He was treasured by the inmates for over a decade.

Everyone knows black labs wouldn't do that anyway!
