The Usually Infallible LeBron's Two Crunch-Time Turnovers Doom The Miami Heat

It wasn’t all LBJ’s fault, but the league’s best player made a couple of key mistakes that helped the Pacers seal a surprising Game 2 win in Miami.

In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Heat and the Pacers, LeBron James had a very LeBron James game: 14-20 shooting, 36 points, 8 rebounds. But it all went down the drain at the very end.

With under a minute left, LeBron went right off a pick and attempted to kick the ball back to Ray Allen for a three. His pass was intercepted by David West, who had cheated off Allen to fill the passing lane.

The Heat managed to force the Pacers into a turnover of their own, but the next possession was deja vu. LeBron again drove right, this time finding himself trapped by Paul George and Roy Hibbert, who was noticeably present after sitting at the end of Game 1. And again, trying to kick it out, LeBron's pass was tipped and stolen away.

Robbie Rogers Will Be Major League Soccer's First Out Gay Player

After coming out in February and retiring from soccer, it was reported Friday night that Rogers will be back and playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Robbie Rogers, who came out as gay and retired from professional soccer in February, is back and will be playing play with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

USA Today reported the news Friday night, which was later confirmed by several other sources.

Rogers will be the first out Major League Soccer player.

Yahoo! Sports later Friday night reported:

MLS rights to Rogers, who previously played in the league for Columbus Crew from 2007 to 2011, were owned by the Chicago Fire, but Rogers didn't want to play for them. So after casually training with the Galaxy over the last several weeks, a trade was finally worked out, sending midfielder Mike Magee to Chicago in exchange for Rogers, who is now the first openly gay player in MLS.

As BuzzFeed reported in early May, Rogers began training with the LA Galaxy on April 30. BuzzFeed's Kevin Lincoln wrote at the time:

The MLS season is already in flow, meaning that Rogers could be playing professional soccer as soon as 1) he decides he wants to be playing professional soccer, 2) his contract situation is resolved, and 3) he gets into game shape.

Because basketball player Jason Collins' season was done this year before he came out on April 29, it is likely that Rogers actually could become the first out male athlete to play a major league sport in the U.S.

Back when Rogers came out in February he described, "I have been afraid, afraid to show whom I really was because of fear. Fear that judgment and rejection would hold me back from my dreams and aspirations." Explaining that he is gay, he then wrote, "I realized I could only truly enjoy my life once I was honest. Honesty is a bitch but makes life so simple and clear. My secret is gone, I am a free man, I can move on and live my life as my creator intended."

Alex Gibney Blasts WikiLeaks, Accuses Group Of 'Selectively Editing' Transcript Of His Film

The Oscar winner’s new film, We Steal Secrets , about Julian Assange, was effectively pirated by WikiLeaks. He strikes back, accusing them of hypocrisy.

In a pre-emptive (and very meta) strike, WikiLeaks on Friday released a transcript of Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney's new film about the organization, We Steal Secrets, which was released into theaters that same day. Along with a published account of the various voiceovers, archival footage and interviews in Gibney's film, the document is marked up with annotations, offering what the organization says are corrections and notes that discredit the movie.

Gibney, whose previous subjects have included Enron and Eliot Spitzer, did not receive the cooperation of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in producing the film but interviewed on camera many of his former associates. He says that what didn't make the transcript discredits the entire effort.

"It's missing all of the words of Bradley Manning," he told BuzzFeed. "And I suspect the reason for that, and again I don't know this for a fact, is that I suspect that the transcript is based on a bootleg audio recording at a recent screening. And because Manning's chats are seen not heard, they're all eliminated."

Manning, who is awaiting trial for leaking over 700,000 government documents to WikiLeaks, is represented on screen in Gibney's film in large part by chat logs archived from conversations he had with whistleblower Adrian Lamo.

"Either Assange edited them out, which would seem pretty pernicious, or it belies the sort of secret hacking capability of WikiLeaks, and that's a big deal," Gibney speculated. "This whole press release is a glimpse of the way Julian Assange really operates. It's in a very tendentious, sneaky manner."

In the press release, WikiLeaks alleges Gibney of portraying "Manning's alleged acts as failure of character rather than a triumph of conscience," and criticized other aspects of the film as well.

Gibney noted on Twitter that the transcript was from a non-final version of the film that was missing other segments.

WikiLeaks wrote in a tweet to Gibney that, "It is the version you have been showing to reviewers this week. Own it. Own your film. Own it."

The director added to BuzzFeed he hadn't had any sort of communication with Assange since he sent him fact checking questions through his associates.

Gibney praised WikiLeaks for its effort to bring to light controversial military and government documents, but like in his film, he made the case in the interview that the organization must be considered a separate entity from Assange himself, who is currently stuck in the Ecuadorian embassy in Britain; should he leave, he would be arrested and extradited to Sweden, where he is facing allegations of sexual assault.

We Steal Secrets was produced by Universal on a $2 million budget and hit theaters on Friday.

Thank you, Paul George and LeBron James.

Tonight, the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat are engaged in a brutally fought Game 2. At the end of the third quarter, things reached a fever pitch: the Pacers' Paul George drove on LeBron James and then dunked all over Chris "Birdman" Andersen.

Of course, LeBron didn't take this lying down: he responded with a buzzer-beating three-pointer that cut the Pacers' lead to two.

An Ex-Wikileaker On “We Steal Secrets”

0

One of Julian Assange’s former employees, who appears in the film, talks about what Alex Gibney got right.

Julian Assange in a still from We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks.

We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks hits theaters today. It's not receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews, and just last night, WikiLeaks itself released an annotated transcript of the film, pointing out what it calls factual errors and instances of selective editing.

Back in January, when the Alex Gibney (Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer, Taxi to the Dark Side) film premiered at Sundance, one of the ex-WikiLeak staffers featured the documentary talked about what Gibney got right, and reflected on the historical significance of the leak itself.

James Ball worked for Wikileaks for three months. Ball, who now focuses on data journalism at the Guardian, has since written about his disillusionment with the organization. He spoke about We Steal Secrets during a panel "Out of Sight (and Outside the Law)" at Sundance.

"I think, in many ways, the most significant contributions [of the WikiLeaks] may be the ones we don't discuss now. If Manhunt was the story of one thread which led to Bin Laden, the systematic picture from WikiLeaks — and I think the film is good at revealing that — was the consequence of the thousands that didn't."

Ball recalled some of the horrors contained in documents leaked to the organization. "We found 1,300 detailed medical reports assembled by U.S. soldiers of horrific torture being committed by Iraqi Army soldiers on detainees — electric shocks to the genitals, drills through the knees, untreated gunshot wounds — and, time and again, under the Bush and Obama administrations, more prisoners were handed in to the custody of these people knowingly, with that evidence. That's a war crime."

Revelations like those, though, were why WikiLeaks was so important. "I think these are incredibly important stories — incredibly significant, but incredibly hard to face for countries that like to think of themselves as having a moral purpose, being sort of better than that," Ball said.

As a result, he suggested, the focus of the story of WikiLeaks shifted "to embassies being rude about each other, to the actual story of the leak itself — and I wonder whether that was because the other questions were too difficult. "

The film does a good job, Ball said, of humanizing of Bradley Manning, the serviceman accused of providing the classified information to WikiLeaks. There can be an instinct to reduce whistleblowers like Manning to some single, defining quality. "He's either the selfish, ridiculous person who put his nation at risk, a traitor, or a courageous hero," Ball said. "I think what the film does is remind you is remind you that Manning was a human being — a three dimensional person."

"Whoever was talking in the chat logs to Adrian Lamo was clearly an incredibly idealistic person who was appalled at what they were seeing, and who knew they could have made a lot of money with what they had. It wasn't that they didn't understand the value of choosing to do something for the greater good. But to do such an isolating act," Ball said. "You're going to be probably somebody who has already been isolated by the people around you."

He added, "I think that Manning comes out of the film fantastically well — and I think he should." Manning's trial is scheduled to begin June 3. We Steal Secrets is in theaters now.

Prepare To Be Mesmerized By One Of The Worst Calls In Baseball History

Did that look like a regular double play to you? Look again. First baseman Mitch Moreland reaches out for the throw from second, at which point the ball is stolen by pitcher Justin Grimm.

Grimm obviously and inexplicably swipes the ball away before Moreland can reach it. Ump don't care. Ump's like, "Great reach, what did you guys think of that Gatsby flick, idk." THE UMP CALLED THE RUNNER OUT.

It gets even better. Even if Grimm hadn't intercepted the throw for no godly reason other than that he could, Moreland's foot came off the bag — meaning that Mariners hitter Jesus Sucre should've been safe regardless.
