“This is real justice,” says one Indian, a sentiment echoed by many.

Altaf Qadri, File / AP

A 25-year-old woman from a village in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh killed her alleged rapist by dousing him in kerosene and setting him on fire. The 38-year-old man, Raju Vishvakarma, had been arrested for allegedly raping the woman at knifepoint in April but was released on bail in May.

According to the rapist's statement before his death, his victim invited him to her house to negotiate an out-of-court settlement in the rape case. When he arrived, the woman and her brothers set him on fire. He died of burn injuries after locals took him to a hospital.

The police have booked the rape victim and her family members on murder charges.

Syrian Children Plead For A U.S. Strike

A message from Assad’s opposition: “Get us out of this hell.” Warning: Video contains some graphic photos of dead bodies.

In the video, uploaded to YouTube on Friday, residents of Kafranbel — mostly children and young adults — explain in English over a soundtrack that a U.S. strike against Syrian President Bashar Assad would "save our souls."

Kafranbel is the self-proclaimed "creative center" of the Syrian Revolution. In April, some residents made news in the U.S. after posing with a sign sending condolences to the U.S. over the Boston bombings.

Sending out messages to the world via English-language banners — and later cartoons — is a practice Kafranbel began in May 2011, two months after Syria's civil war began, according to Syria Deeply.

In August 2012, the Syrian military was expelled from the town, and residents began referring to the town as Liberated Kafranbel. In an interview the following March, activist Raed Fares said they were now calling it Syrian Revolution Kafranbel.

"Most of the world has forgotten that we are in a revolution, and call it a civil war. We are reminding them of what is actually happening on the ground," he said.

Rebecca Minkoff, I'm Waiting For That Snapchat

Last season, Twitter trolled the Rebecca Minkoff show. This season, the brand is using Snapchat.

At New York Fashion Week last February, designer Rebecca Minkoff installed a large screen at the end of the runway, which displayed any and all tweets using the dedicated hashtag #RMFall. It was a fun, friendly idea — fans could interact with the brand, and showgoers might have something to talk about while they waited for the models and clothes.

But when a group of Twitter pranksters (many of the same people who successfully campaigned to send Pitbull to a Walmart in Alaska) realized they could post whatever they wanted and mess with a captive audience that included fashion editors and celebrities, the screen was quickly filled with absurdist tweets and the internet-famous photo known as "piggy poop balls."

It probably wasn't what the designer's PR team had planned, but it was at least newsworthy, and kind of hilarious in the midst of a week sometimes shrouded in seriousness.

Seven months later, Rebecca Minkoff is not shunning potentially lewd social media — instead, the brand is embracing a social network known for being lewd: Snapchat.

A few days ago, Minkoff announced that if you added the label on Snapchat, you could receive photos of runway looks before they hit the runway.

In an interview with Mashable, Minkoff's CEO said the stunt was, again, about connecting to the customer through social media: "We believe the consumer is part of [fashion week], and that their inclusion is going to grow. The consumer has a voice and say in [our] brand, they should get special perks even if they can't attend the show."

Do The Generals Want War In Syria?

A retired major general writes a damning op-ed against Obama’s war plans and claims widespread military disapproval over the administration’s handling of the crisis. A Pentagon spokesman rejects the claim.

A retired U.S. major general who claims to have spoken with dozens of active and retired soldiers says there is widespread outrage inside the armed services at the "amateurism" of the Obama administration's plans for military strikes in Syria.

Writing in the Washington Post, Robert Scales, who retired in 2000 after serving as head of the U.S. Army War College, added his voice to the increasingly loud questioning of U.S. plans to strike the regime of Bashar al-Assad following a chemical weapons attack last month.

"So far, at least, this path to war violates every principle of war, including the element of surprise, achieving mass and having a clearly defined and obtainable objective," Scales wrote. The soldiers to whom he had spoken were "embarrassed to be associated with the amateurism of the Obama administration's attempts to craft a plan that makes no strategic sense."

Pentagon Press Secretary George Little rejected the article's premise.

"I have no idea where these broad characterizations of anonymous opinion originated. We don't take opinion polls of our military personnel on policy debates," Little said in an email to BuzzFeed. "The fact of the matter is that our military planners continue to do what they do incredibly well: professionally develop military options on Syria. Our cadre of planners is the finest in the world, and they are demonstrating great resolve."

Although Obama appears likely to win congressional support for a planned strike on Syria, he continues to face criticism for fumbling the approach to war and failing to elucidate an end goal.

Reading into the body language of Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday, Scales wrote that it's "pretty obvious" that Dempsey "doesn't want this war."

Dempsey remained largely silent throughout the hearing, leaving most of the talking to Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. A particularly awkward moment came during an exchange between Kerry and Republican Sen. Rand Paul, who told the secretary of state that "the last 50 years, secretaries of defense would say if your goal is not to win, you shouldn't be involved." Kerry replied by saying "100% of Americans" would say they wouldn't want to go to war with Syria if asked, but the administration wasn't planning "a war in a classic sense." He asked Dempsey if he wanted to "speak to that." Dempsey jumped in with: "No, not really secretary, thanks for offering."

"Dempsey's unspoken words reflect the opinions of most serving military leaders," Scales wrote. "The U.S. military's civilian masters privately are proud that they are motivated by guilt over slaughters in Rwanda, Sudan and Kosovo and not by any systemic threat to our country."

"Civilian control of the armed services doesn't mean that civilians shouldn't listen to those who have seen war," he wrote. "Over the past few days, the opinions of officers confiding in me have changed to some degree. Resignation seems to be creeping into their sense of outrage."
