Gawd bless us, every-WAH-HAAHH-HAAHHHH.

Home Alone: when Kevin's mother returns.

Home Alone : when Kevin's mother returns.

Ugh, Macaulay Culkin's Kevin is so bratty. I'm totally rooting for the bad guys. Oh wait, he's befriended his lonely old neighbour. Oh look, he's wandering folornly round his empty house. Gasp! His mother's finally come home, and she's standing there looking all lovely and soft-focus while her lost little boy gazes at her unbelievingly. Oh look, I have something in my eye. A bit.

Oh look, it's a kindly old couple who make toys for children! Oh look, they're going for a lovely sleigh ride! Oh my god, they are freezing to death in the North Pole. This is a children's movie, for crying out loud. WAIT. It's okay. They're being transformed into Santa and Mrs Claus. Phew. Hang on, does that mean that Santa's a zombie?

A web design filler text snafu.

Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's Senate campaign website "issues" page appears to have been copied directly from Georgia Democratic Senate candidate Michelle Nunn's website "ideas" page BuzzFeed has found. There's no link to the page on the site, but the section can be found by searching for Landrieu's issues page on Google. The same company, Trilogy, designed both websites.

A Landerieu campaign strategist said the page hasn't launched yet and wasn't intended to be viewed.

Here's is Landrieu's issues page which even has a video of Nunn.

There Is A Brilliant New Card Game About Group Sex

It’s called Clusterfuck! And it’s free!

Cards Against Humanity, the disgusting, profane, hysterical party game released in 2011, has become an actual cultural phenomenon—our unshockable generation's Uno.

Now, in collaboration with the highly-regarded indie designers Zach Gage and Doug Wilson, the designers of Cards have released a new, free-to-play card game that is just a shocking, and nearly as funny: Clusterfuck! Yes, it is a card game that simulates a swinger's party.

The rules are simple: in the game's first, silent, phase, you plot whom to have sex with by passing secret notes and making eyes. Then, everyone closes their eyes and points—two people fingering each other is sex, three people pointing at each other is a threesome. Score is assigned after everyone opens their eyes. A twosome is good (two points); a coordinated threesome is even better (three). You can ogle (1 point), contract chlamydia (other players don't score when they have sex with you) and break up threesomes in the making (two points).

So watch this video explaining the rules, print out the game, and enjoy simulated group sex with your friends and family!

Someone Spent $1,800 Promoting Their OkCupid Profile Over Three Months

$

So that new monetization strategy is working out pretty well so far.

It's apparently possible to spend $1,800 on a free online dating website in three months.

OkCupid introduced a new feature in July that allows users to pay $2 for 15-minute "bursts" of extra promotion across the site. While the results are still rolling in, it's working well enough that one person apparently spent $1,800 boosting their profile's visibility to crushes and compatible strangers with the Spotlight feature in just three months, executives said. (The site doesn't show whether someone is using it or not.)

"There's a row of potential people of the gender you're interested in across the top of your screen when you log in — that row gets clicked on with much greater propensity than if you do a search," Jeffrey Kip, chief financial officer of InterActiveCorp, which owns OkCupid, said at a Wells Fargo conference last month. "Now you can go in there and pay $2 to get piped into the Spotlight row of everybody you're interested in who's out there logged in right now, and it's instant gratification. There's a panel that appears to the right that says you're now being looked at by six women, now being looked at 14 women, 42 women. It's worked well and we believe that kind of product can play across all of our products and a lot of our sites well in different ways, and I think there's other services we think of bringing it into."

IAC Chief Executive Officer Greg Blatt alluded to the $1,800 customer in a conference call at the end of October without specifying which of the media company's services it was spent on. (IAC's dating properties also include Match.com, Twoo, and Tinder.)

"Someone paid us $1,800 in three months on a so-called free site," Blatt said. "On Match, the king of so-called paid sites, the most someone can pay us over three months is around $150 or less than one-tenth of that even if they're willing to pay us more...the biggest indicator of who will pay for these dynamic features is the fact that they're already paying for subscription offerings."

It's a fresh way to monetize OkCupid, which outside of advertisements, draws revenue from "A-list memberships." With those, users pay $5 to $10 a month to get better matches, browse profiles invisibly, get read receipts from messages and an ad-free experience. The site, which IAC bought in 2011, says it has 7 million registered users. It's categorized as "developing revenue" for IAC along with DateHookup and Match's international operations, excluding Meetic. Together, the division brought in $66.9 million last year. Match's revenue was $713.4 million.

Brands like OkCupid and Tinder have been viewed by IAC as a means to get people more comfortable with online dating, ultimately paying for subscriptions down the road, which bring in the most money.

Blatt said in February there are 100 million American singles and 50% say they're open to online dating. That may grow to 112 million people, with 55% to 60% comfortable with online dating by 2017, he said.

Most of the people paying for the promotions on OkCupid are already paying subscribers, according to Kip. The idea of "transactional monetization" is something IAC may introduce to other of its dating apps and sites.

"We think there is a lot of upside," he said. "We've been working on this and thinking about this for a while, but we've just started to really show the traction in the results, and we think we can really talk about it affirmatively."

OkCupid didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the adoption of the profile boosts or whether the $1,800 user found love. In July, OkCupid co-founder and President Christian Rudder told BuzzFeed that more than 2,500 people paid to promote themselves with the tool in the first 24 hours, which started out as a 10-minute boost. Rudder said he anticipated it would mostly be guys making use of it.

Television May Be Embracing Gay Characters, But Where Is The Same-Sex Intimacy?

$
0
0

While LGBT representation went down slightly in 2013, the bigger problem is how LGBT characters were portrayed. With displays of same-sex affection so invisible, gay characters just aren’t on the same footing as their heterosexual counterparts.

Nolan (Gabriel Mann) and Patrick (Justin Hartley) kiss on Revenge.

ABC

In the fourth episode of an already shaky third season, Revenge gave fans something to celebrate with the quick consummation of a will-they-or-won't-they flirtation that began the moment Patrick (Justin Hartley) set foot in the Hamptons earlier that season.

"I just thought," Nolan stammers, "you showed up at my party, and we saw each other at the beach club, that maybe we, uh…"

"We did," Patrick finally answers, pulling Nolan into a passionate kiss.

With little fanfare, Revenge showed audiences a tender man-on-man kiss, something that shouldn't feel revolutionary in 2013 but still proves to be noteworthy.

Contrast the Nolan-Patrick kiss — and the steamy embraces that followed — with Nolan's fling with sexy con artist Tyler (Ashton Holmes) in Revenge's first season. As sexually charged as their interactions were — largely a tribute to Nolan's portrayer, Gabriel Mann, who has chemistry with just about everything — their coupling was relatively chaste. The first kiss, designed to out Nolan as bisexual, was implied, with the camera cutting away before Nolan or Tyler had a chance to slip some tongue.

In many ways, the transition from Nolan and Tyler to Nolan and Patrick shows how quickly things can change when it comes to LGBT representation. But while Revenge deserves credit, to be sure, the climate as a whole isn't nearly as progressive as it purports to be. By and large, gay characters are sexless. And when they're not, their trysts are still more insinuation than anything explicit. LGBT audiences aren't looking for porn on network television, but we need more than the occasional hint that two same sex characters are attracted to one another. It comes down to depictional equality: If the straight couples on a show are making out, the gay couples ought be able to make out too.

Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) get (almost) close to each other on Modern Family.

ABC

The hard truth is gay sexuality is considered inherently more risqué than heterosexual sexuality. And that's not limited to sex — a kiss between a man and a woman is expected on nearly every TV comedy or drama, but a same-sex kiss continues to give pause. Filmmaker Kirby Dick addressed this phenomena as it relates to films in his documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated, which pointed out a major discrepancy in terms of how the MPAA rates films with LGBT content. In a 2011 blog post on The Wrap, he wrote, "By rating films with gay subject matter more harshly, the MPAA is clearly saying there is something objectionable about gay sexuality."

The thought process seems to be that the MPAA is protecting more conservatively minded viewers from what they might consider to be objectionable content. And television appears to be following the same model: Shows hold back on how much they depict of LGBT sexuality out of fear that viewers will protest — or, at the very least, change the channel. But representation is important, and that goes past stated identity. After all, the LGBT spectrum isn't all about labels: As Tom Daley and Maria Bello have demonstrated, sometimes coming out simply means expressing a romantic attraction to someone of the same sex. TV is still stuck in the old model, where gay is something stated, not expressed. Because, well, expression can be scary.

The director of Bey’s sexy “Yoncé” video, Ricky Saiz, tells BuzzFeed how the biggest surprise of the year all came together. And did you know that’s Justin Timberlake drumming on a bucket in the background?!

Via iam.beyonce.com

We'll never think of Friday the 13th as unlucky again. Beyoncé was the album drop heard 'round the world, arriving without notice at midnight, complete with 14 new songs and 17 music videos. The internet practically exploded that night as more than 80,000 fans rushed to buy the album on iTunes and to watch the videos well into the wee hours of Friday morning. After a year of waiting for a Beyoncé album with no foreseeable release date, it was the perfect holiday gift from the ultimate diva.

We're still digesting all the images that Queen Bey has bestowed upon us, so BuzzFeed turned to Ricky Saiz, the director of the album's incredibly sexy "Yoncé" video, to break some of it down.

Saiz is the co-head designer and co-head of creative for the iconic hip-hop clothing brand Supreme, as well as a video director and filmmaker. While he hadn't worked with Bey before, he was brought in by Lady Gaga's creative director Todd Tourso, with whom Saiz had worked on the Lady Gaga x Supreme campaign. Tourso directed "Jealous" and "Heaven" on Beyoncé.

14 Things You're Doing Wrong To Your Skin

TAKE THAT LEMON OFF OF YOUR FACE.

Using lemon juice to clear or brighten your skin.

Using lemon juice to clear or brighten your skin.

"Natural remedies" are all the rage on Pinterest, and we're all guilty of pinning them. But, be cautious as they all don't work on all skin types.

One ingredient that's had a lot of debate is lemon juice. Standing at about a 2 on the pH scale, citrus fruits like lemon and grapefruit can harm your skin in the short and long run. With immediate symptoms including irritating rashes or burns, lemon dries your face (as it doesn't help retain moisture) and can break down the skin's acid mantle, which protects the skin against bacteria.

This goes for baking soda as well.

Forgetting to use sunscreen.

Forgetting to use sunscreen.

According to the National Cancer Institute, melonoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer, is one of the most diagnosed cancers in America. Wearing at least SPF 15 daily could reduce your chance of getting skin cancer by 40 - 50%. Although people with lighter pigment are more at risk, EVERYBODY should protect themselves against UV rays.

If all that isn't scary enough, sun damage prematurely AGES YOU. Just see what happened to this guy.

The FDA recommends the effective amount of 2 mg — which means you probably need an additional sunscreen rather than just relying on the amount in your moisturizer or foundation.

Piling on too many new products at one time.

Beauty hauls are the best, but trying every single purchase at the same time is product overkill for your skin.

Fun fact: AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids like lactic and glycolic acid) will de-stabilize your retinoids and render them ineffective. So that expensive anti-aging serum could be going to waste if you're combining with too many other skincare products.

Additionally, unexpected breakouts and allergic reactions can result from a new formula too many. So, try out a patch test to see how your skin responds to different products. Here's a great and simple guide for patch testing.
