Janet Jackson Benefits From "Nipplegate" Nostalgia
Streams of her songs on Spotify increased 16% on Monday, one day after the Super Bowl.

The 10-year anniversary of "Nipplegate," the infamous Super Bowl halftime show incident where Justin Timberlake exposed the right breast of Janet Jackson to a shocked football-loving world, produced a lot of think pieces last week.
But for Janet — Ms. Jackson if you're nasty — the nostalgia fest produced something more tangible: a renewed interest, if only for a day, in her music.
According to data released by Spotify, streams of Jackson's songs increased 16% on Monday, the day after the Seattle Seahawks crushed the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. The increased interest won't exactly produce a financial windfall for Jackson, however. Late last year, the company estimated that the average song generated between $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream in royalties.
Spotify distributes its pool of royalty money to music publishers and record labels based on the percentage of streams their catalogs garner. The publishers and labels then distribute royalties to artists based on their individual record contracts. Since its launch in 2009, Spotify estimates it has paid out $1 billion in royalties.
Bruno Mars was, of course, the big gainer in Spotify streams, with a 226% increase. His co-stars for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, saw a 97% gain in streams of their music. Renee Fleming, the opera performer who sung the national anthem, saw streams of her songs increase by 172%.
Nielsen SoundScan will release sales data for the week tomorrow.

Thousands Of Stray Dogs Are Being Killed Ahead Of The Sochi Olympics
The city of Sochi has hired a private company to round up as many dogs (“biological trash”) as possible before the opening ceremony.

A private company hired by the city of Sochi has quietly been capturing and killing as many stray dogs as possible to clean up the streets before the start of the Winter Olympics.
Animal rights activists estimate that anywhere from 5,000 to 7,000 dogs have been killed since the current round-up began, a number that city officials would neither confirm nor deny.
Strays are a common sight in Russia and traditionally have been a welcome part of city culture in many metropolitan areas (for example, when a popular Moscow street dog was stabbed to death in 2001, horrified residents raised money to build a memorial statue of the stray).
Many of the dogs kept as pets by Russian men and women were rescued from the streets, either by individuals or by animal shelters.
According to a contract obtained by the Boston Globe, Sochi officials hired Basya Service to engage in the "catching and disposal" of dogs. The owner of the company, Alexei Sorokin, gave a candid interview to ABC News in which he described his work as a public service.
"These dogs are biological trash," Sorokin said. "Let's call things by their real name."
He said that strays presented a risk to the Olympics and public safety. "Imagine, if during an Olympic games, a ski jumper landed at 130 kilometers an hour [over 80 mph] and a dog runs into him when he lands. It would be deadly for both a jumper and for the stray dog," said Sorokin. "I am for the rights of people to walk the streets without fear of being attacked by packs of dogs... [they] must be taken off the streets even if that means putting them to sleep."
Although Sorokin told ABC News that his company uses poisons and traps to kill the stray dogs, activists claim that much harsher methods are being deployed.

Everything You Need To Know About The Bill Nye And Ken Ham Debate
A recap of my night at the “is creationism a viable model of origins” debate.
The scene: Petersburg, Ky., at the Creation Museum.
Bill Nye's videos play before. The room is VERY warm. There is a very big snowstorm/ice storm outside. We all might be trapped.
The crowd.
As you can see, there were police officers there. There were bomb-sniffing dogs walking around the museum all day. Everyone had to go through a metal detector to get in.
Also everyone was white.
Ken Ham: He goes into this whole thing about experimental vs. observational science. If we weren't there to see it, then we don't know exactly how it happened. The Bible was written by people who were there.
Sorry for the weird angle. I was in a weird spot.

This might be the first video that really captures what we were all thinking during Return of the Jedi .
While George Lucas has always maintained that he wrote the original Star Wars trilogy with the entire storyline in mind, most fans of the films believe otherwise, pointing to not only the love triangle Luke, Leia, and Han, but also the obvious romance/sexual chemistry between Luke and Leia established in the first two films.
This hilarious video makes the perfect case for the idea that Lucas just made up
the storyline as each film went on.

9 Ways You Didn’t Know You Could Relieve Stress
That don’t involve Hulk rage or rampant drug use.
Take a ride on the complain train.
People of a feather should complain together. If you’re as pissed off about something as another person, talking about it with someone who’s reacting the same way emotionally can take some steam out of your ears.
Drop that F bomb.
If complaining isn’t the guacamole for the chip on your shoulder, using some slightly more colorful language can help build work relationships and reduce stress, too.

Plug your ears.
Cortisol loves noise. When a Chatty Cathy talks in the movie theater or your upstairs neighbors sound like they’ve got bricks for feet, your stress-hormone levels increase.

Step away from the news.
Violent events keep us glued to the media. But did you know that too much coverage can be more stressful than being at the event?
Exposure to six or more hours of Boston Marathon bombings coverage was linked to more stress than being near the marathon, so stay informed but cap your media time to diminish potentially health-harming distress — especially since a lifetime of exposure to other tragedies can shorten your stress fuse.
