Recommended if you like:
Game of Thrones, 300, just totally outrageous violence

Twitter Knows When You're Going To Be Sad, Hungover, And Late For Work

Data from the social network proves that we’re all in pretty bad shape come Monday morning.

Monday mornings for the average worker are pretty brutal, and Twitter has some compelling data to back it up. Twitter's Data Editor, Simon Rogers, combed through millions of tweets to try and define the network's collective mood at a given time and found that when it comes to feeling terrible at the beginning of the week, you're probably not alone.

In a blog post on the site Rogers explains his methodology:

Looking at the usage of different words and phrases in 2013 by day of the week and month tells you a lot about how the world tweets. We turned that data set into a ratio of Tweets containing those words in English per million posted.

The results are both disturbing and heartening. Twitter proves that 'the Mondays' are, in fact, very real. Turns out all those whiny tweets might be good for something after all.

Twitter users are 'feeeling happy' in unusually high numbers on Fridays and Saturdays in March...

Users indicate they are at their happiest on Tuesdays in December and January, but given that Christmas Eve was on a Tuesday last year (as was New Year's Eve), the data is likely skewed (since Tuesdays in December and January are usually bleak and miserable). It seems users are least likely to publicly declare their happiness on Sundays in April. Maybe because they're too busy outside enjoying the winter thaw on their day off.

...which may account for why so many people are tweeting they're 'hungover' on Sundays in March.

"Lord of the Pi's" (Season 3, Episode 8)

"Lord of the Pi's" (Season 3, Episode 8)

Just so we're clear: There are no real bad episodes of Veronica Mars. The always amazing cast and writing made it one of the best TV shows of all time. That said, Season 3 was clearly not as good as the other two.

What was this episode about? Can't remember.

Warner Bros.

"I Am God" (Season 2, Episode 18)

"I Am God" (Season 2, Episode 18)

As Season 2 neared its end, the bus crash mystery needed to be wrapped up. So this episode gave out some clues via Veronica's bleak nightmares, which look like Bonnie Tyler videos and bad erotic movies from the '80s. Definitely not the best episode.

Warner Bros.

"Drinking the Kool-Aid" (Season 1, Episode 9)

"Drinking the Kool-Aid" (Season 1, Episode 9)

Veronica goes undercover in a cult...which actually turns out to be a group of really nice hippies! Well, that was disappointing.

Warner Bros.

"Credit Where Credit Is Due" (Season 1, Episode 2)

"Credit Where Credit Is Due" (Season 1, Episode 2)

After an extremely packed pilot episode, this one slows the action down a bit. But its only true problem is that Paris Hilton is in it.

NBC

After 15 years of playing Detective (and now Sergeant) Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Mariska Hargitay is finally stepping behind the camera. The actress is making her directorial debut with the March 19 episode, titled "Criminal Stories," which centers on the rape case of a young Muslim woman, which escalates to a hate crime.

"I'm thrilled to be directing," Hargitay said in a statement. "It's been a goal of mine for a long time, and it's quite an experience to see it realized. My respect for the process of making this show and telling these important stories deepens with every scene we shoot. I have always been so honored to work with this cast and crew, but never more so than now, as a director collaborating in a new way.'

Below, check out a slew of exclusive behind-the-scenes photos from the Hargitay-helmed episode, which features Alec Baldwin as a renowned newspaper reporter doing an investigative piece on the Special Victims Unit who thinks the crime is a hoax. "I've watched Alec on screen for so long have always been in awe of his talent," Hargitay added. "Having the opportunity to tell this story with him, having him bring his experience, depth, and fierce commitment to his craft, honestly feels too good to be true."

13 Awesome Never-Before-Seen Pics From The Making Of "The Goonies"

The Goonies , released in 1985, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

Warner Bros. / Via geekynerfherder.blogspot.com

When I was a kid, we had a recorded copy of The Goonies that I would play nonstop. Here was a movie where kids, not that much older than me, were having the adventure of a lifetime setting off — and setting up — booby traps, running from crooks, and searching for the legendary treasure of pirate One-Eyed Willy. Needless to say, I was hooked.

And what wasn't to be hooked about? The Goonies was not only directed by the great Richard Donner (The Omen, Lethal Weapon) but it was also written by Chris Colombus, who would go on to direct his own classics like Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire. Oh, and it was based off a story created by the film's executive producer, Steven Spielberg.

So it was with much pleasure that I was able to chat via email with Mark Marshall, who just so happened to be Spielberg's personal assistant at the time that The Goonies was shot. According to Marshall — who is now a post-production supervisor — he visited the Astoria, Ore., set after meeting Donner during casting, and convinced him to let him visit the set while on his vacation. However, Marshall ending up staying for the entire duration of the location shoot (which lasted about three weeks) and received a credit in the film as "2nd Unit Production Office Assistant," which he later learned was a "reward for believing in the film, courtesy of Steven, Kathy Kennedy, and Frank Marshall," all of whom were founding members of Amblin Entertainment.

We're Very Sorry, But Your Food Is A Lie

7 Essential Steps To Building The Perfect James Bond Movie

$
0
0

It’s not just about who gets to don the tux.

How do you build a perfect Bond movie?

How do you build a perfect Bond movie?

More than five decades, six actors, and 23 films later, Agent 007, Bond, James Bond, remains one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. But despite the 23 tries, there still is no perfect Bond film — some may stand out, but no one movie has hit all the beats that make a Bond film tick. That's where this list comes in. There are seven elements that truly "make" a Bond film:

– The Title Track
– The Bond Girl
– The Villain
– The Car
– The Gadgets
– The Exotic Location
– James Bond himself

Cherry-picking from the entire series, this list assembles the Perfect Bond Film: a movie with premium ingredients that would be sure to please even the most discerning of Agent 007's fans.

Eon Productions

Who sings the title track?

Who sings the title track?

It's not just the martini and the tux that matter when it comes to a Bond film. The title track has always been an intrinsic part of the series, and choosing the right act to record the theme is a way to get the film off on the right foot. A bevy of the world's most talented musical artists have lent their vocal talents to the Bond series, from Tina Turner to Nancy Sinatra, Madonna to Paul McCartney, Carly Simon to Duran Duran. But if you're looking for an artist to single the title track for the perfect Bond film, two names stand out: Dame Shirley Bassey and Adele. Bassey has sung three title tracks, for Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker. Her work for the first set the standard for all Bond themes to come. Then there is Adele, who is the first artist to win an Oscar for a Bond theme for her work on Skyfall. Either way, you can't go wrong.

The Verdict: Dame Shirley Bassey, because she did it first — and then again, and again.
Backup: Adele.

Eon Productions / Via artofthetitle.com

Who is the Bond Girl?

Who is the Bond Girl?

This might be the hardest choice in assembling the Perfect James Bond Film. A long list of incredibly talented women have tackled the tall task of playing a Bond Girl onscreen — some to more success than others — and there are no hard-and-fast rules as to what makes an awesome Bond Girl. Having said that, the better Bond Girls — from the iconic Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder to Eva Green as Vesper Lynd — have always been a blend of beautiful and badass. A Bond Girl shouldn't be a damsel in distress to be saved by James Bond, but his equal.

The Verdict: Barbara Bach as Anya Amasova (a.k.a Agent XXX) is in many way Bond's superior in The Spy Who Loved Me — heck, she even promised to kill 007 after their mission was finished — and thus edges out many other deserving woman for the role of Bond Girl in the Perfect Bond Film.
The Backup: Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore from Goldfinger would be an inspired backup choice — she's an accomplished pilot and Bond's foil for much of the film.

Eon Productions

Who plays the Bond Villain?

Who plays the Bond Villain?

A Bond villain can transcend their film and become iconic. Who can forget Oddjob and his steel-rimmed hat, Jaws and his deadly grin, Scaramanga and his golden gun, or more recently, Raoul Silva and his awful haircut? Played correctly, and an actor can redefine a legendary role — but if you overdo it, you run the risk of camp. You want a larger-than-life villain, not one that inspires laughs.

The Verdict: Donald Pleasance as Ernst Stavro Blofeld is an iconic Bond megalomaniac, from the scarred eye and the white cat, to the plans for world domination and the volcanic lair. His understated menace is perfection, and is more than up to the task of taking on Agent 007 in his toughest mission yet.
The Backup: Why not go for an outside-the-box choice and choose Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp from Goldeneye? She's sexy, psychotic, and electrifies the screen in every scene she is in.

Eon Productions
