A Definitive Ranking Of The Greatest Soccer Ads Of All Time

0
0

Soccer ads are better than all other ads. And here’s the best XI.

"Good vs. Evil" (Nike, 1996)

Why is it so good?
An All-Star team takes on a team of monsters for control of Earth. Basically, it's "Space Jam." For soccer. In 90 seconds.

Why isn't this a full-length movie, again?

youtube.com

Is there a GIF-able moment involving a Ronaldo or Ronaldinho?
Yes! A super young Ronaldo is here, calmly juggling his way past a sub-par monster defense. (Let's be honest, about this: You've really got to question a team that throws everything forward and refuses to maintain shape in the back when you're playing for the future of Earth. Come on, monsters, you're better than that.)

youtu.be

Does Eric Cantona make an appearance?
Yes! He's got so much space up front, he even has time to pop his collar before taking a shot so hard, the ball catches fire and kills the monster's goalie. Again, monsters: Play a 4-4-2, and your goalie probably lives.

youtu.be

Does Kobe Bryant show up for no apparent reason?
No, but only because he was focused on starring in Sprite ads with Tim Duncan in the '90s.

Will this ad make you want to go play soccer RIGHT NOW?
Yes! You're going to watch Paolo Maldini execute a perfect slide tackle on a monster, and you're going to want to play right away.

PayPal Fires Executive Who Went On Twitter Tirade Against Co-Workers

“Rakesh Agrawal is no longer with the company,” PayPal said in a tweet on Saturday. Update: Agrawal claims in a tweet he was not fired, but resigned.

Paypal President David Marcus took to the company blog Monday to slam Agrawal for his tweets and vigorously defend Paypal employees insulted by the former executive.

When Rakesh (a.k.a. "Rocky") Agrawal joined PayPal in March as a Director of Strategy, he said in our own PayPal Forward blog that he couldn't think of a "better place to be." So the turn of events over the past few days have been shocking and sad. Stan Chudnovsky, our VP of Growth and Strategy, invited Rocky to join his team to help PayPal chart the future of payments for small businesses and entrepreneurs. But instead of focusing on that amazing opportunity, Rocky chose to turn a career-defining moment into career-destroying infamy.

Since his tasteless tweets first became public, Rocky has posted positive remarks about myself and other PayPal leaders. Thanks but no thanks, Rocky. When you attack and insult my team, you attack, and insult me and the rest of PayPal. I think the world of the people you've insulted. They are some of the best people I've worked with in my career, and I will not tolerate your mad rants any longer.

Now...if you're a close friend of Rocky's and you're out there, I'd strongly suggest getting to him sooner rather than later, as his behavior is extremely worrisome.

We at PayPal are putting this episode behind us, as always working on behalf of our customers.

Onward with dignity and respect…

Also, Ryan Atwood looks good .

The first trailer for Fox's upcoming Batman prequel series Gotham made its debut Monday night during the premiere of 24: Live Another Day.

The show will see former O.C. star Benjamin McKenzie return to Fox as Gotham City Police Department Detective James Gordon, who's tasked with solving the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. In turn, he finds himself spending a lot of time with their son (and witness) Bruce, who, of course, grows up to be Batman.

But in addition to explaining the beginnings of Batman, Gotham offers the origin stories of some classic DC Comics characters and villains. And it introduces some newbies too.

Here's The Alleged Evidence Of Predatory "Grooming" By A Hollywood Executive

Letters, emails, and items from the London premiere of Superman: Returns are at the center of a new case against Bryan Singer and Gary Goddard. Also: a photo of the plaintiff and Goddard.

A boy wearing clothes matching those seen in photos provided by the attorney for John Doe No. 117 at the premiere of Superman Returns with Bryan Singer and Gary Goddard.

LOS ANGELES — Evidence that Gary Goddard "groomed" a teenage boy with gifts before he and Bryan Singer allegedly sexually abused him exists, said the boy's attorney at a press conference Monday, and photos of the boy provided by the attorney match photos obtained by BuzzFeed from the London premiere of Superman Returns when the abuse allegedly took place.

Representatives for Goddard and Singer have adamantly denied the allegations and characterized them as completely fabricated. The two men have also denied allegations they sexually abused Michael Egan, who filed lawsuits against them and two other entertainment executives last month. They've also attacked the plaintiffs' lawyer, Jeff Herman, for his high-profile allegations and the campaign he's waged against them through the entertainment press.

"[The boy] was groomed with literally love letters, with candy, with gifts, so he becomes what we call this compliant victim," said Herman, the attorney for the new plaintiff, identified only as John Doe No. 117 in a complaint filed Saturday in a U.S. District Court in California.

Rose Byrne And Zac Efron Defy Expectations In The Very Funny "Neighbors"

0
0

Seth Rogen’s back in cuddly man-child form, but it’s Byrne and Efron who are the real surprises.

Glen Wilson/Universal Pictures

Despite what the promotional material may have you believe, the central struggle in Neighbors, the gleefully deviant new comedy starring Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Zac Efron, is not about realizing it's time to grow up.

Mac and Kelly Radner, the married couple played by Rogen and Byrne, are pretty clear on having arrived at unmistakable adulthood: They have a baby and have sunk their savings into a house on a sunny suburban street in the college town of Ardendale. Mac works in an office, though he still makes time to get high outside with his buddy Jimmy (The Mindy Project's Ike Barinholtz), while Kelly takes little Stella to Mommy and Me classes, though she describes them in terms that do the film's R rating proud.

Instead, the tarter lesson Mac and Kelly have to learn in Neighbors, which opens on Friday, is not so much that they're grown up, but that they're glad to be grown up and don't actually miss the partying life they recently left behind. Arriving as hard-bodied reminders of what it's like to be young, carefree, and constantly wasted are the members of the Delta Psi fraternity, who, to the Radners' dread (they were hoping for a gay couple), move in next door under the leadership of President Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron).

Glen Wilson/Universal Pictures

Mac and Kelly are so eager to prove they're not the typical straitlaced suburban parents that they gift their new neighbors with a joint during their first fawning visit to request they keep the noise down. Later, they end up getting drawn into debauchery that involves magic mushrooms, some uproarious cross-generational Batman impressions, and staying up until dawn while keeping one ear on the baby monitor. It's like having a party that never ends right next door.

But the novelty of that only charms the Radners for about a day, until it's 4 in the morning the next night, the music's blaring, and Teddy isn't answering their calls. At that point, they turn to the cops, and from then on, it's war.

Neighbors is directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall and The Five-Year Engagement) and written by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien (the minds behind IFC's upcoming series American Storage with Rob Huebel). But if there's a particular filmography to which Neighbors feels like it most belongs, it's Rogen's. The actor has been guiding cuddly man-children in slow steps toward responsibility and empathy since his Freaks and Geeks days, and Mac's a natural continuation of Rogen's path in Knocked Up, committed to his new life but still looking longingly back at his old one. He's funny, but he's familiar.

Byrne and Efron, however, are trying something new here.
