27 Genius Ways To Use The Space Under Your Stairs

23 Surprising Laundry Tips You Didn't Know You Needed

9 Running Workouts You Can Do In 30 Minutes Or Less

Start running now with fun, challenging workouts you can do in a half hour or less.

These running workouts were created especially for BuzzFeed Life by two RRCA-certified professional coaches, Janet Hamilton and John Honerkamp, who have 45 years of coaching experience between them. These dynamic workouts are fun and fast-paced — and they won't feel tedious.

Plus, they can each be done in about 30 minutes (including a warm up and cool down) and can be adjusted to be made easier or more challenging. And you can do them all outside if you want, or on a treadmill.

1. The running workouts listed below are listed in order from least challenging to most.

2. Brand new runners should build a base of fitness before tackling the harder workouts. Coach Hamilton recommends jumping into the harder workouts as written once you're "consistently running three to five times per week for 30 minutes at a time and are injury free." That means that if you're not a runner at all right now, start with the first few running workouts on this list until you're doing them consistently multiple days a week. Another thing: Each one of these workouts can be modified so that they're less intense or shorter, "but listen to your body and don't beat yourself up," Hamilton says.

3. You should always warm up before and cool down after. Each workout includes instructions for both.

4. We're using a scale from 1 to 10 of rate of perceived exertion (RPE), rather than telling you what treadmill setting to use, which would differ from person to person and doesn't apply to outdoor running. According to our RPE scale, 0 is no exertion, 1 is a light walk, 10 is all-out sprinting as fast as you can go, and 5 is running but at a moderate intensity pace — you can still carry on a conversation easily. This is a much healthier and smarter way to calculate your intensity than dialing up the treadmill.

For each workout, we prescribe an RPE and a length of time that you should keep it up. For example "5 minutes: 5 RPE" would mean that you should run for 5 minutes at a moderate pace that would allow you to comfortably hold a conversation with a running buddy. For RPE 2 or 3 (easy and fairly easy), that can mean a brisk walk or a light jog, depending on your own fitness level and what feels right to you. Typically RPE 2 or 3 applies to rest periods or cool-downs, so whatever you need at that moment is good — use your judgment and pay attention to your own body.

The scale is based on the Borg Scale of Perceived Exertion and simplified by Coach Honerkamp, who says that it's not an exact science and will get easier to use as you continue running.

The 17 Best New Television Shows Of 2014

Yes, The Good Wife, Orange Is the New Black, Parenthood, and Mad Men were all fantastic this year — but this is about the newcomers. Presented here in no particular order. Caution: Potential spoilers ahead!

1. The Honorable Woman (SundanceTV)

1. The Honorable Woman (SundanceTV)

Sundance TV

Old vendettas die hard in The Honorable Woman, a twisty geopolitical potboiler that examines the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of one family. It's hard to categorize this drama, which is equal parts domestic drama, espionage thriller, and political think piece, but it transcends each of those genres to become something wholly original.

Baroness Nessa Stein (a stellar Maggie Gyllenhaal) is attempting to fix unrest in the Middle East by using her philanthropic organization to bring fiber-optic cables into the West Bank, after ascending to control of the company when her brother Ephra (Andrew Buchan) mysteriously stepped down from the role. But when the young son of Ephra's housekeeper (Lubna Azabal) is kidnapped, long-buried secrets are unearthed as Nessa fights to prevent herself from being "compromised." The nature of life, however, is that we are each compromised in a variety of ways, and Nessa's secrets prove to be deadly for those around her.

Gyllenhaal is at the top of her game here, turning out a performance that is hypnotic to watch; her Nessa is at turns sly, haunted, and calculating. She's joined by one of the best casts this year, which includes Stephen Rea as a grizzled MI6 operative beset by rivalries, Eve Best, Janet McTeer, Katherine Parkinson, Tobias Menzies, Igal Naor, and Lindsay Duncan.

From its stunning opening credits sequence to its shocking conclusion, The Honorable Woman is a glittering drama that manages to be diamond-hard as well: It forces the viewer to see the damage done on both sides of the conflict and on the lives of those caught the crossfire and its aftermath. Is the path to a clear conscience paved with vengeance or with forgiveness? And, when backed into a corner, does such a thing as "honor" ever truly exist? Or is it a facade that we drape around ourselves, comfortable in our safe houses? As The Honorable Woman seeks to answer these questions, it also delivers a chilling and first-rate thriller that will have you enrapt. Not to be missed. —Jace Lacob

2. How to Get Away With Murder (ABC)

2. How to Get Away With Murder (ABC)

Getty Images/Mitch Haaseth

How to Get Away With Murder isn't a perfect show: The framing device didn't quite click for me over the course of its autumn run, and Viola Davis' Annalise Keating seems like a wildly inconsistent character, ricocheting from jagged sobs to cold-blooded ruthlessness. But let's be clear: This show, created by Peter Nowalk and executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, is one that is wholly driven by powerful ideas, and it has been thrilling to see those concepts play out in a murder mystery/legal drama format.

Whether it was Annalise stripping off her wig and makeup before uttering those now-infamous nine words ("Why is your penis on a dead girl's phone?") or the representation issues kicked up by the show, How to Get Away With Murder has left its audience with much to discuss and analyze, even if the murder plot itself has been fairly formulaic. It's a MacGuffin, however, because the real drama to be found is in the way the show depicts Davis' Annalise as a sexual being (a rarity on primetime dramas for middle-aged dark-skinned women) or the way that Connor (Jack Falahee) engages in random hook-ups as a cover-up for what's really going on. (He also just, well, loves sex.) That cerebral, status-quo-challenging element of the show is so provocatively unpredictable that it warrants inclusion here. Murder might be most foul, as in the best it is, according to Shakespeare, but Murder itself is tantalizingly delicious. —J.L.

Wildfire Kills Dozens Of Pet Dogs And Cats

A wildfire near Adelaide, South Australia, destroyed a kennel, killing dozens of pets Saturday. Various fires have also forced thousands of evacuations and destroyed homes.

The fire burned the Tea Tree Gully Boarding Kennels & Cattery Saturday morning, the Sydney Morning Herald reported, killing about 40 pets. Paul Hicks, who runs the kennel with his wife, said they were forced to evacuate as the fire approached but couldn't take the pets with them. The kennel had been full for the holiday season, Hicks also told reporters.

In a Facebook post, the kennel announced that all of the boarded cats had been killed in the fire. Some dogs were rescued, but "a large number did perish." The kennel's owners also wrote that they were devastated by the losses.

"We have lost a home, business and pets we love and feel so awful about the loss of people's beloved pets," the note adds. There were more than 7,000 comments on the post as of Saturday night, some expressing sorrow over the lost dogs and cats.

The fire ripped through the kennel just hours after the owners had posted on Facebook that they were still safe, but that roads were closed and "conditions are very unpredictable."

The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

"A slow epic for the reader of yesterday."

"The characters are unsymathetic and the most tedious elements of the book are their long discourses. I gave up after about 300 pages.”

“I struggled up to about half way then had to admit that I found nothing in it either enjoyable or interesting.”

"Total s**t, be warned."

"It's even more boring than that thing of Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men'. Avoid it like the plague. No. on second thoughts, get the plague, you'll be out of your misery earlier."

"The secret is: the author was a drunk."

"*MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WHATSOEVER*. I don't care about society standards that is completely ridiculous. That Daisy would even think of staying with Tom dates this book *HORRIBLY* at the very least and more realitically turns into *A VIRTUAL CARTOON*..."

Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert

Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert

“This book was so lame, it took me many years of putting it down and picking it up again to get through it. Why did I waste my time? Because all my cool literary friends just love it and find it sooo very deep... another book to be avoided like the plague. Most mystifying of all is that many people, even intelligent friends of mine, consider this whiny breach of taste a passionately real and pro-woman statement!”

“Every time I have to help a high-school student or college freshman slog through Madame Bovary, I find myself wondering why the assignment isn't a violation of the Geneva Convention.”

“If you have a choice at all, please, save yourself: back away from this title and none of your innocent brain cells will be needlessly killed.”

“I personally did not like this book. I had no objection to extra marital affairs but the pace is slow, the story line flat and the ending depressing.”

The Odyssey, by Homer

The Odyssey, by Homer

“This is long and repetitive book. I felt like I read the same chapters over and over again. I just can't

“Let me talk, for a moment, about why we care about "The Odyssey" at all: I DO NOT KNOW. Why has this poem survived?”

"I give this item zero stars, and that's only because I cannot take stars away from it. ACTUALLY, I have to give this item 1 star, which means "I Hate It," because it turns out you cannot give something ZERO stars on Amazon. So I am giving it one star but only because I am being forced to do so by the gods.”

Designer Anouk Wipprecht has created a dress that uses sensors that detect the wearer's stress levels and surroundings. It is meant to mimic the instincts of a spider.

The dress corresponds to how you feel about others — talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve.

It can detect movement up to 22 feet away and will determine if nearby people are dangerous by your heart rate and their proximity.

Approach the wearer too quickly and the mechanical limbs move up to attack you. Approach slowly and the limbs will dance.

This is actually the second Spider Dress she's made — the protoype, seen above, is black. The newest one is pearl white and 3D printed in collaboration with Rapid Made, using technology in collaboration with Intel.

Besides these two dresses, she's also created garments that shock the wearer with over 500,000 volts of electricity and a dress that makes you cocktails. I'll pass on the first but the second sounds kind of perfect for holiday parties, like a high fashion beer hat. #FASHION.

127 New Movies And TV Shows To Be Really Excited About In 2015

From Better Call Saul to Westworld, and Fifty Shades of Grey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there are a lot of new film and television offerings to look forward to in the next year. In chronological order!

Marvel’s Agent Carter, Jan. 6 (8 p.m. on ABC)

Marvel’s Agent Carter, Jan. 6 (8 p.m. on ABC)

Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the two Captain America films, along with the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, takes Peggy's game to TV this time. Agent Carter will air for seven episodes during the hiatus for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Her Peggy is shrewd and calm — and is also subject to the limitations that trapped women in 1946, when the show is set. Yet while she's largely dismissed at work, she's valued by Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, also reprising his Captain America role), who enlists her to fight against…something. Yes, these Marvel stories pretty much always lose me with their Big Bads. But that's OK: The fun is in Peggy's undercover work, her confidence, and in this show's slick production design.

ABC

Empire, Jan. 7 (9 p.m. on Fox)

Empire, Jan. 7 (9 p.m. on Fox)

I can’t tell whether Empire is an answer to my soapy needs, or a big old mess — or maybe both, which…yay! In the Lee Daniels-directed pilot, Terrence Howard plays the head of a music company — an EMPIRE, in fact — who wants his three sons to compete over who will succeed him (because he is secretly ill): Yes, someone makes a King Lear joke. It’s a good premise, and Timbaland does the music. But what sends it over the top is that his ex-wife, Cookie, is played by Taraji P. Henson, and in the pilot she gets out of prison after many years. After a few years as a staid cop on Person of Interest, it’s as if Henson wanted especially to burn it down as Cookie. She is amazing. And her clothes are amazing (see above). In Cookie we trust.

Fox

Babylon, Jan. 8 (10 p.m. on Sundance)

Babylon, Jan. 8 (10 p.m. on Sundance)

I'm not going to lie: Somehow I had misheard or misread what Danny Boyle's Babylon was about, and went into it thinking it was science fiction. As the first episode went on — in which Brit Marling plays the new head of PR for Scotland Yard, and James Nesbitt is the head of the police — I was very confused. But I was also thinking I pretty much liked it! Eventually, I looked at the screener's box, and saw it described as a workplace satire. Ha! This one's for Anglophiles, Marling obsessives, and Boyle completists (I am 1½ of those things).
