Behind The Most Talked About Acceptance Speech At The 2015 Oscars
During the ceremony, Graham Moore, a first-time Academy Award nominee, spoke of his suicide attempt as a teenager and sent a message to kids who feel out of place to “stay weird.” He talked to BuzzFeed News about what inspired him to say what he said.

When first-time nominee Graham Moore won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on The Imitation Game, he took the stage and opened up about his suicidal past.
Moore was inspired by the man at the center of The Imitation Game, Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch), who helped crack an impossible German code during World War II — changing the course of the war in the allies favor — only to be prosecuted later in life for being an openly gay man. At 41 years old, Turning took his own life.
"Alan Turing never got to stand on a stage like this and look out at all of these disconcertingly attractive faces. And I do," Moore said in his speech. "And that's the most unfair thing I think I've ever heard."
"In this brief time here, what I want to use it to do is to say this: When I was 16 years old, I tried to kill myself because I felt weird and I felt different and I felt like I did not belong," Moore said. "And now, I'm standing here and I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she's weird or she's different or she doesn't fit in anywhere: Yes, you do. I promise you do. You do. Stay weird, stay different. And then, when it's your turn and you are standing on this stage, please pass the same message to the next person who comes along."

On February 8, during the 57th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, President Barack Obama delivered a PSA about domestic violence and rape. During his speech, Obama said, "It's not okay. And it has to stop. Artists have a unique power to change minds and attitudes and get us thinking and talking about what matters. And all of us, in our own lives, have the power to set an example. The councillor was previously the party's branch secretary in South Thanet, where Nigel Farage is seeking election as an MP.
Farage has since described her comments as "deeply racist". He told Radio 4: "Clearly she doesn't have any understanding of the deep offence she has caused by her comments, and we took the right decision."

She told the BBC: "I still honestly believe what I said was never in any way racist or derogatory.
I used the word 'negroes' as you would do Asians, Chinese, Muslims, Jews. It's a description. It's not an insult.
In the same way that that you would say 'Well, what do you mean, Jewish?' They belong to a community, they've got a certain faith, they usually have noses that have a bit of a curve to them."
The BBC captured her comments as part of a documentary following UKIP activists in Kent called Meet the Ukippers.

WWE Doctor Sues CM Punk And Colt Cabana For Defamation Following Podcast
Punk appeared on Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast accusing the WWE medical team of incompetence.
Dr. Chris Amann, WWE's senior ringside physician has filed a defamation lawsuit against former WWE employee CM Punk (Phil Brooks) and professional wrestler Colt Cabana (Scott Colton.)

After abruptly leaving the WWE in January last year, Punk claimed in an appearance on Cabana's podcast, The Art of Wrestling that the WWE allegedly overlooked a "baseball-sized growth" on his lower back that turned out to be a staph infection.

Twitter Got Into A Rage Over Patricia Arquette's Comments In The Oscars Press Room
The actress earned praise for her feminist speech during the awards show, but her follow-up remarks left people upset. “It’s time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we’ve all fought for to fight for us now,” she later said.
When she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Patricia Arquette used her acceptance speech to champion women needing equal rights.
She ended by saying, “To every woman who gave birth to every tax payer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”

According to the official transcript, Arquette said, "So the truth is, even though we sort of feel like we have equal rights in America, right under the surface, there are huge issues that are applied that really do affect women. And it's time for all the women in America and all the men that love women, and all the gay people, and all the people of color that we've all fought for to fight for us now."
