56 Things I Learned At The Biggest Christian Music Festival In The World

100,000 Christians and I spent the weekend together at Mount Agape Farm in Western Pennsylvania for the 34th annual Creation Fest. Read this post and you can get a good idea about what that was like.

National Pro-Life Cupcake Day is on October 9.

National Pro-Life Cupcake Day is on October 9.

On National Pro-Life Cupcake day you're supposed to make as many cupcakes as possible and hand them out at church/school/everywhere in remembrance of all the kids who could never have a birthday because of abortion.

My personal favorite was "God Armor", a rip off of Under Armor.

We Survived A Brony Convention

BronyCon brought together over 4,000 adult fans of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic . Here's what went down.

Darius, a brony in the National Guard. The crowd cheered for him and his friend when they entered the convention in uniform.

At this past weekend's BronyCon — a gathering of "bronies" at a convention center in Secaucus, New Jersey — you could buy My Little Pony hats, pins, art prints and even nail polish. You could go to a panel discussion with Lauren Faust, the creator of the cartoon show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. You could play a Magic The Gathering-type of card game that was My Little Pony-themed, or if you were really hardcore you could participate in a game of pony themed LARP (live action role play) game that went on for hours in a room with a tightly closed door. Or you could just hang out with the 4,000 other bronies and discuss the Derpy Hooves controversy.

A brony is an adult man who is a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic — not just the little plastic ponies that little girls have been playing with for decades. (Adult female fans are sometimes called "pegasisters," though I prefer to use the brony term universally.) They've developed an intense (some might say creepy) adoration of the show, which is aimed at young girls but is packed with clever jokes and sophisticated characters that appeal to adults, with a theme about the importance of friendship that resonates with teenage or college-age geeky guys.

Darius, a brony who's a member of the National Guard, was wearing a Rainbow Dash patch on his sleeve. “We barely made it up to the top steps and everyone outside was cheering for us. I didn’t know they were cheering for us, I thought one of the other guys had showed up, I thought it was [voice of the character "Dischord"] John de Lancie or Lauren Faust. I started clapping because I figured if everyone else was clapping I’d do it too. Then my friend was like, ‘no dude, they’re clapping for us.’” Apparently bronies also love a man in uniform.

Bronies have plenty of spaces on the internet — Tumblrs, Deviant Art, brony blogs — to communicate with other bronies, but getting to hang out with other bronies in real life seemed to be the most exciting part of the convention.

Another highlight of BronyCon was a screening of the second version of a video mashup called Ponies: The Anthology. A team of video editors worked for months splicing clips from the TV show with popular music and other dialogue to create a jumpy masterpiece filled with pop culture references and inside jokes from the show. The crowd loved it.

Here are more highlights from BronyCon, from vendors and their DIY merch to girls in evening gowns as part of pony cosplay costumes.

From a 1969 “Playboy.” We live in a “Utopian leggy domain.” Learn how to be king, clueless young man.

Study was done by a clinical psychologist, so, 100% legit. First up, the "Organizer" (easy lay, just dress neat, talk clearly, and clean your balls thoroughly)

The Schemer (easy lay, just let her win at everything), the Conformist (easy lay, just boss her around), and the Perfectionist (easy lay, just be a problem child).

The Social Worker (easy lay, just be fake kind), the Emancipated Woman (easy lay, just take her away), and the Philanthropist (easy lay, just come on easy and breezy).

How do you get the Pizza Planet truck into a movie set hundreds of years before the invention of the combustible engine? Very, very sneakily.

In the scene in the witch's hut, she is emphatic that she only carves bears...and pizza trucks as you can see in the lower left corner of this screen capture.

During another part of the scene, you can see Sully from Monsters Inc. carved into a slab of wood in the witch's house.

American Apparel's Newest Model Is Also Their Oldest

Stunning, grey-haired Jacky is likely triple the age of the girls in your average American Apparel photo shoot. But she's also the best.

Jacky has a whole album dedicated to her on American Apparel's facebook page. It describes the relationship between the model and the brand as such:

There was something so compelling about Jacky's look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair. During a long discussion that touched on everything from career choices and nutrition to insights on relationships, age and beauty, we asked if she would consider being photographed by us. We were thrilled when she agreed. Here are some photos we've taken of Jacky over the last few months showing how she likes to wear American Apparel. We hope you enjoy them.

The responses on AA's facebook page are varied but mostly positive, with many responses like this:

LOVE THIS AND LOVE HER

this is rad. I wanna be Jacky when I get old(er).

i wish i can age as gracefully as she did!!!! stunning pictures!!!!!!

She is stunning. The type of woman I would like to be when I get older. She is very natural looking and seems so soft, kind, and a beautiful person inside and out. Love these shots!

dope. keep it up AA.

Leave it to the French to host the most brilliantly outlandish fashion shows in the world. Here's a look at what some designers want men to wear in the spring of 2013, hot off the Paris Men's Fashion Week runways.

Or are they latex-coated male model-sized slinkies? They're probably not ideal for bustling metropolitan settings like New York, but at least if you were feeling fat one day, these are awfully forgiving.

Romancing With Self-Righteousness On OkCupid

When you're dating online, sell your best features, don't write a sanctimonious screed.

Online dating is about advertising yourself. What are your best qualities? Your most charming quirks? What do you like to do, eat, watch and listen to? What are you looking for in a partner?

Unfortunately, in the process of writing up a flattering self-summary, a lot of online daters cross over from "a rose-tinted view of oneself" and into "full-on ego blast." And the worst of those are the sanctimonious people who go on self-righteous rants about how they're awesome and 100 percent correct in their views, and you're awful and judgmental in comparison. Take, for example, Ms. Super Vegetarian:

Or maybe I'm just mad because I am a heart-crushingly weak lover of bacon.

Sanctimony isn't just for the lefties though. Conservatives also have it in spades:

Child Abuse Presented As Art Installation

Via St. Petersburg, Russia, for the International Economic Forum.

The photos pretty much speak for themselves, but here's some details:

A special performance was arranged for the guests of the Forum. Girls, 9-10 years-old, had their faces painted silver and were stuck standing in boxes with very little room to move. They were depicting statues of "wind gods" and were instructed to blow the paper boats around the pool—which represented the nearby Neva River. It was hot, and the sun was blazing in their faces.

Not sure if this was a Capitalist or Communist installation.
The Forum was held June 21-23.

9 Careers Where It's Still Not Okay To Be Gay

Some are hailing Anderson Cooper's decision to come out as a smart career move, but many fields have yet to see their first openly gay man or woman.

1. Hollywood superstar

In 2009, Hollywood publicist Howard Bragman told the LA Weekly that the day when an A-list actor would come out was likely fast approaching. Three years later, openly gay actors like Cheyenne Jackson and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have built successful TV careers. But none of the actors or actresses on Vanity Fair's list of 40 highest-paid people in Hollywood has come out.

2. Major rapper

While some young hip-hop artists — like Sissy Rich — are openly gay, no big stars of the genre have yet come out. Last fall, the Game and Fat Joe both urged gay rappers to come out of the closet. "I’m pretty sure I’ve done songs with gay rappers,” said Fat Joe. "In 2011 you gotta hide that you gay?"

Openly gay former NFL player Wade Davis.
