The prime minister has told aides he does not want to point at fish again when he goes on holiday this summer. His penchant for fish-pointing has been well documented over recent years – sparking much merriment online.

This year Cameron plans to spend much of August relaxing with family in Portugal, Cornwall, and Scotland after his election success. One source close to the PM told BuzzFeed News: "He wants to avoid being photographed pointing at fish this year."

Instead, Cameron hopes to find another place – or plaice – for the traditional holiday photo opportunity. No. 10 usually agrees to an agency photo at the beginning of the PM's holiday in return for him being left alone by journalists afterwards.

Let's look back at that fish-pointing evidence. Here he is with wife Samantha in Cascais, Portugal, last year.

HERE ARE THE TOP STORIES

Friends and family of the Chattanooga shooter struggle to reconcile his private turmoil with what they saw from the outside.

Nearly five days after the shooting at two military facilities that left four Marines and one Navy sailor dead, investigators have given no indication that a definitive motive has been identified.

When the name of the suspected gunman was released, friends and classmates of Mohammad Abdulazeez thought it was crazy that they had the same name. Two days after the shooting, his family echoed his friends’ confusion in a statement, saying Abdulazeez was “not the son we knew and loved.”

Yasmeen Abdulazeez deleted her Instagram account after the shooting.

Via Instagram: @yabdulazeez

Now, everything from Abdulazeez’s online blog espousing devotion to the Muslim faith, and possible radicalization, to his history with depression and drug and alcohol abuse, has come under heavy scrutiny by investigators.

BuzzFeed News spoke with multiple friends of Abdulazeez and his sister, Yasmeen, about clues into his motivation for the deadly attack.

WE’RE KEEPING AN EYE ON

Texas officials are treating the investigation into the death of Sandra Bland as they would a possible murder.

Bland was found dead in her jail cell on July 13, three days after she was arrested following a traffic stop. Waller County Sheriff officials said they think she died from asphyxiation with a trash bag and that her death was a suicide. But Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis said there “needs to be a thorough and exhaustive review.”

“Friends and family of Bland have publicly questioned whether her death was a suicide, and public scrutiny has only increased after a cell phone video of her arrest on July 10 showed officers holding her to the ground as she yelled, ‘You just slammed my head into the ground,’” BuzzFeed News’ Salvador Hernandez writes.

Sandra Bland and a screenshot of a video of Bland’s arrest shows two police officers restraining her on the ground.

What’s next?

Surveillance video of the jail cell where Bland was held was released yesterday, and dashcam video of her traffic stop and arrest is due to be released today. In addition to the investigation by Waller County sheriff’s officials, the Texas Rangers and the FBI are also looking at the case. “Once the investigation is completed, it will be reviewed by a Waller County grand jury, which meets monthly,” Hernandez reports.

How did a homeschooled, evangelical Christian from Chattanooga become an ISIS wife and mother?

Ariel Bradley was raised in a Christian family in a suburb of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was once a bubbly, caring, self-described feminist who got tattoos and dropped acid. BuzzFeed News’ Ellie Hall dug into her background and interviewed her former friends to try to find out why Bradley converted to Islam, married a Muslim man whom she never met before they got engaged, and moved with him to ISIS-controlled territory in Syria. “It seemed like whatever guy she was with, she would just crawl into his skin and kind of become him,” a friend of Bradley’s told Hall.

This French teen’s HIV has been in remission for 12 years with no medication.

The 18-year-old girl, who was born with HIV and given intensive drug therapy in early childhood, has been HIV-free for 12 years without the use of any medications. While she’s not technically cured, she doesn’t carry detectable signs of the virus. Her case is the “longest-running instance of HIV remission in children to date, and is raising hopes that long-term interruption of the infection is possible in other kids as well,” BuzzFeed News’ Azeen Ghorayshi writes. But researchers warn about making too much about the incredibly rare case.

Donald Trump claims his comments about John McCain were taken out of context.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on the Today show yesterday morning that his statement, on Saturday, that Senator John McCain is not a war hero was taken out of context. Trump faced criticism over the weekend for saying McCain was considered a war hero by some “because he was captured … I like people who weren’t captured.” In a separate appearance yesterday morning, Sen. John McCain said Trump doesn’t owe him an apology, but to the families of those who have served.

Scott Olson / Getty Images

Meanwhile, Trump’s polling numbers continue to increase. In a new poll, he’s in the lead with 24%, twice the support as the next candidate, Scott Walker, with 13%, and Jeb Bush at 12%.

Republican strategists suggest that Trump, who’s paying for his own campaign, enjoys a rare freedom. “Because he doesn't need tens of millions of dollars from wealthy donors — a notoriously risk-averse crowd — the standard rules of politics simply don't apply. He can afford, literally, to continue dropping the verbal bombs that have defined his presidential campaign,” the Associated Press writes.

These Australian models are encouraging women everywhere to be nicer to themselves, and to other women, through the #ProjectWomanKIND campaign.

The body-positive project involves a web series, where models Jessica Vander Leahy, Stefania Ferrario, Olivia Langdon, Sophie Sheppard, and Margaret Macpherson speak out about their own body image struggles, as well as those that come with working in the fashion industry.

Isabella Moore

According to Jessica Vander Leahy, who launched Project WomanKIND, the whole idea behind the campaign is to remind women that they are so much more than their reflections in the mirror.

According to Jessica Vander Leahy, who launched Project WomanKIND, the whole idea behind the campaign is to remind women that they are so much more than their reflections in the mirror.

"I wanted to create something where women could talk about their good days, and their bad days, and how they feel about themselves - not just their bodies - but their inner acceptance of who they are as people. We all have those natural highs and lows," Leahy tells BuzzFeed Life. "My bigger goal is to wrap women up in the comfort of knowing that everyone is on the same journey of trying to figure life - and themselves - out."

Also involved with the project is Stefania Ferrario, a model who started a campaign earlier this year called #DropThePlus, which asked the industry to lose the term "plus-size".

In a series of YouTube clips, each of the models talk through their own motivation, and the way their relationships with themselves has developed over the years.

"I don't want women to allow their perceived flaws to define them because they are just that - perceived. If you can be bold enough to shift your perspective, and look at yourself from a different angle you might be surprised with what you missed in those blind spots," says Leahy.

Birdwatcher Ian Ellis spotted the cows inspecting the female pup in Frampton Marshes in Lincolnshire.

Ellis, 67, was out for a walk when he saw the cows behaving oddly, and it was only after looking through his telescope that he realised there was a baby seal in the middle of them, ITV News reported.

It is believed that the seal, whose mother couldn’t be found, had made its way out of a creek into the field, the East Lindsey Target reported.

Ellis contacted the RSPB Reserve and Skegness Natureland, which told him how to move the pup before staff came to collect her.

"Once we got the pup back to Natureland, she went straight into the Seal Hospital to begin treatment," the Daily Mail reported director of Natureland Richard Yeadon as saying.

"Her main problem is that at only five days old she was orphaned and therefore had not fed for a while. She had lost quite a lot of weight and was dehydrated."

3. I wonder if he is in for the same thing today.
4. Urgh, all of this for a messy ten minutes of mediocre sex.
5. "Go all night", my arse.
6. Hopefully this won't take too long.
7. Christ, why are there so many people in here?!
8. Nobody's looking anyone in the eye, this is terrible.
9. Let's have a look at this form.

10. "What service do I need today?" I think the main thing I need is Jesus, to be honest.
11. Shit, isn't that the girl from school who pissed herself in assembly?
12. AVOID EYE CONTACT.
13. Fuck, she's seen me. She's waving.
14. Better wave back.
15. Oh my god, are people going to think we actually PLANNED to meet here?!
16. It's bad enough she's bloody seen me, if she sits next to me I'll melt into a puddle of embarrassment.
17. I'm gonna have to move country.
18. A reunion over a vagina consultation, I can't think of anything worse.
19. Look down, look down. Keep looking down.
20. Fuck it, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Sex is natural! This is NORMAL. I'm a strong, empowered, sexually active woman and I am PROUD.
21. I reckon if I repeat that to myself a couple more times I'll be good.
22. Christ, it is so silent.
23. I wonder what everyone would do if I suddenly shouted "CHLAMYDIA"
24. Ha, that's funny.

What's Going On Around The World Today?

HERE ARE THE TOP STORIES

The dashcam video of the traffic stop that led to Sandra Bland’s arrest shows a heated confrontation.

Texas officials released the nearly hourlong video showing Bland’s arrest on July 10, and “reiterated their promise to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into her subsequent death inside her jail cell three days later,” BuzzFeed News’ Salvador Hernandez writes.

In the video, Bland is shown being pulled over by state trooper Brian Encinia “for failing to signal a lane change, and what appears to be a curt, short exchange between the two quickly turn into a violent encounter that ended with Bland in jail,” Hernandez writes. Officials are also looking into whether the video was edited, NBC News reported.

In the video, Encinia can be heard repeatedly ordering Bland to get out of the car, as she continues to refuse. At one point, the trooper yells, “Get out of the car! I will light you up!”

youtube.com

Trooper Encinia has been placed on administrative leave, and “the case will most likely be referred to a Waller County grand jury scheduled to be convened in August,” the New York Times writes.

And a little extra.

“Two years after its founding — even as it remains a dispersed, bottom-up organization — Black Lives Matter has also become an increasingly vocal, commanding presence in the 2016 presidential race,” BuzzFeed News’ Darren Sands and Ruby Cramer report.

Meanwhile, in Cincinnati, an unarmed black man was fatally shot in the head during a traffic stop by a white police officer. That shooting is also under investigation.

The leader of a veteran al-Qaeda group was killed in a U.S. airstrike, the Pentagon says.

Handout / Reuters

Muhsin al-Fadhli, who was a leader of the al-Qaeda-linked group sometimes called the Khorasan Group, was killed on July 8 in Syria, a spokesman for the Defense Department said in a statement. Al-Fadhli was one of the few leaders who knew in advance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Last year, BuzzFeed News’ Rosie Gray reported on the group, which “was almost totally unknown to the American public until the U.S. started bombing them, though sources said the group has been known to the administration and to Congress for some time.”

WE’RE KEEPING AN EYE ON

Los Angeles County officials have voted to raise the county’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.

The county’s current minimum wage is $9 an hour, and, under the proposal, it would be $15 by 2020. The wage hike only applies to unincorporated areas of the county, which are areas where there’s no city-level government and the county’s government has jurisdiction, like Marina del Rey and East Pasadena. If this sounds familiar, it’s because last month, the city of Los Angeles became the largest city in the U.S. to approve a minimum wage increase to $15 an hour by 2020.

In this file photo from June 13, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, center, joins members of the City Council and community leaders in a photo after he signed a gradual minimum wage increase into law.

Ringo H.W. Chiu / AP Photo

What’s next?

The changes are part of a larger movement across the country to boost the minimum wage. Seattle and San Francisco have also approved raising their minimum wages to $15 an hour. There’s also a push to raise the federal minimum wage, and “Democrats are hoping to make increases a campaign issue in 2016,” the Associated Press reports. Vice President Joe Biden visits L.A. to promote the issue today.

DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THIS?

Votes are being counted in Burundi after a contested presidential election.

The east African nation began counting ballots in “a presidential election that the U.S. and the U.K. said lacked credibility given the political violence and voter intimidation,” according to Bloomberg. Three people were killed in violence the night before the election.

Burundi’s current crisis began in April when President Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term, a violation of the state’s constitution. Scores of people were killed as outraged demonstrators clashed with police. In May, a general and former head of Burundi’s intelligence service tried to oust the president, but failed. More than 170,000 civilians have fled since April to neighboring countries like Rwanda and Tanzania.

“The unrest in Burundi has the potential to destabilize the Great Lakes region … Civil wars in the early 1990s in Burundi and Rwanda set the stage for conflict in neighboring Congo, the deadliest war in Africa’s modern history,” Bloomberg’s Desire Nimubona writes.

Today marks one year since an American reporter was arrested and locked in an Iranian prison.

One year ago today, Washington Post Iran correspondent Jason Rezaian was arrested at his home in Tehran and locked in Evin prison, known for housing political prisoners and treating them brutally, BuzzFeed News’ Anup Kaphle writes. His detention has become the longest of any Western correspondent held by the Iranian government.

Vahid Salemi / AP Photo

For nine months, Iranian authorities held Rezaian without specifying the charges against him until this April, when he was charged with four serious crimes, including espionage. His family has said he is not guilty of any of the charges.

Rezaian’s third session of his trial was just days before the historic nuclear deal reached by world powers and Iran. “Many, including the Post’s editorial board, have insisted that Rezaian has been used as a pawn by Iranian hardliners during the nuclear negotiations,” Kaphle writes. “As the historic deal was signed, the calls for Rezaian’s release have grown.”
