“It’s a trap!”

Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash appears to have gotten a great birthday present for his fellow libertarian-leaning member of the "Rebel Alliance," Kentucky Repubican Rep. Thomas Massie. On his Twitter feed, Massie posted a picture of a Lego Star Wars X-Wing he received from Amash for his birthday.

"To the best wingman in the Rebel Alliance," the card on the gift reads.

"Thanks @repjustinamash for the birthday gift! These are the droids we are looking for," Massie tweeted in response to the gift.

In a fundraising email on his birthday, Amash also called Massie a "true friend" and "a nerd."

Store Cameras Can Tell If Shoppers Are Pissed Off Or Happy

3VR is one of many companies selling “big data video-mining” to retailers. It can figure out a customer’s age, gender and mood, on a scale of 1 to 10, in real time.

As retailers battle to make their brick-and-mortar stores more productive in the age of e-commerce, 3VR is among companies looking to help them through what's been dubbed "big data video-mining."

3VR, at this week's National Retail Federation expo in Manhattan, showed off video cameras that can, with great accuracy, peg the age, gender, and mood of passersby in real-time, displayed in labels underneath one's image. (My mood was deemed a 3 out of 10 while I stared at the camera in surprise but it recalculated to a 10 when I smiled.) A retailer using 3VR in its stores would presumably be able to see those pieces of information at any given moment using a "Storeview" feature in the startup's business intelligence dashboard, or just get it in aggregate later through a report analyzing demographics for the week. (For example, what days and times do 26-year-old women tend to come in? When are they happiest? How long do they stay and in front of what displays?)

While retailers have long paid for people-counting services like ShopperTrak to manage staffing and analyze foot traffic, new advances in technology have made it possible to get a heck of a lot more detail on the crowds, and faster.

Produced by Hudson Mohawke — one-half of TNGHT (now on hiatus) and one of the producers behind Kanye's "I Am A God" and "Blood On The Leaves" — the song is a banger, with percussion that demands you get your booty up out your seat and dancing.

And the just-released video, directed by Lockhart and Thu Tran, is simply magical and SO. MUCH. FUN.

This extremely rare book features everybody’s favorite Marvel characters demonstrating some slightly ridiculous exercises. But it does beg the question: Do superheroes really need to workout?

Published in 1976, the Strength and Fitness Book is a fitness guide that showed off the iconic Marvel superheroes’ own fitness routines. Unfortunately, the exercises recommend in this book do very little for getting non-superheroes into shape.

When Biscuits Met Gravy, A Perfect Dish Was Born

Recipes and tips to help you master this savory breakfast classic.

Looking for the perfect thing to make for brunch this weekend? Three words: biscuits and gravy. It's a surprisingly easy, savory breakfast dish that will definitely impress your friends.

But before we get to the recipes, let's start with the basics of biscuits and gravy.

images4.fanpop.com

First, you should always make your own biscuits.

First, you should always make your own biscuits.

It's dead easy, cheap, and you won't spend hours waiting for yeast to rise. Here are a few secrets to ensure your biscuits turn out flaky and delicious every time.

1. Use cold ingredients. Unlike yeast breads that need to be warm, with biscuits the colder the better.

2. Cut your fat into the dry ingredients with two knives, a pastry blender, or the edge of a fork. These little bits will melt and create steam, giving you flaky biscuits.

3. Handle the dough as little as possible, and place your biscuits in the freezer for a few minutes before baking in a very hot oven.

4. Bake the biscuits on the top rack of your oven.

5. Let them cool on a wire rack. If you let them cool on the pan the bottoms will go soggy, and no one likes soggy biscuits.

Check out this basic biscuit recipe or find one from your favorite food blog. Just make sure the recipe has the basics: flour, baking powder, shortening or another fat, and milk.

And you should also make your own gravy.

And you should also make your own gravy.

Again, super easy.

It's a basic béchamel gravy, so start by heating oil or butter. Add an equal amount of flour, cook for a minute, then slowly add milk. Season with salt, pepper, and here's the secret ingredient...

Nutmeg!

Yes, add a few pinches of freshly grated nutmeg to your sauce. Don't ask me why, it just takes the flavor to a whole different level.

D.C. Attorney To Leave High-Powered Law Firm To Defend Utah's Marriage Ban, State Attorney General Says

Gene Schaerr has been appointed as the lead outside counsel assisting the state, Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes announced. Reyes says Schaerr will be leaving Winston & Strawn in order to do so.

Jonathan Ernst / Reuters / Reuters

WASHINGTON — Gene Schaerr, a well known D.C. appellate lawyer, will be serving as the lead outside counsel to Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes in defending the state's amendment barring same-sex couples from marrying.

The appointment was announced Thursday afternoon by Reyes. Along with Schaerr, John J. Bursch of Warner Norcross & Judd, and Monte Neil Stewart of Stewart Taylor & Morris will be serving as outside counsel to the state.

The case, Herbert v. Kitchen, is currently on appeal before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals after U.S. District Court Judge Robert Shelby struck down the amendment as unconstitutional on Dec. 20, 2013.

Prior to Thursday's announcement, Schaerr had been the chair of Winston & Strawn's Appellate and Critical Motions Practice. Winston & Strawn is a major international law firm with 17 offices across the globe. According to The Oyez Project, Schaerr has argued five cases at the Supreme Court, all of them criminal cases. Bursch is the former solicitor general of Michigan and has argued eight cases in the U.S. Supreme Court, including two earlier this term. Stewart, whose appointment was announced previously, has written and advocated against same-sex couples' marriage rights.

According to a statement from Reyes, though, Schaerr is leaving his firm.

"We are pleased that he is so eager to represent our state and that he would leave his firm so he can focus on this case exclusively," Reyes said in the statement. A message left with a press contact at Winston & Strawn and another message left for Schaerr were not immediately returned.

Reyes also noted that Schaerr is from Utah and got his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University — although he went on to Yale Law School before moving to DC. According to the attorney general's office, Schaerr is giving a discounted rate to the state and "will cap the fee arrangement at $200,000 for the 10th Circuit phase of the proceedings."

This is not the first time a big-firm lawyer left his firm as part of representation of the increasingly unpopular position against marriage rights for same-sex couples.

When Paul Clement was appointed as outside counsel to the House Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group to help with the defense of the Defense of Marriage Act in 2011, he was a partner with King & Spalding, a global law firm based out of Atlanta. Eleven days later, when questions were raised about the firm's defense of DOMA, Clement left the firm and joined the smaller, more ideological D.C. firm of Bancroft PLLC — which was started by former Bush administration Assistant Attorney General Viet D. Dinh — in order to continue his defense of the law.

On the other side of the cases though, several other big-law firms have represented the plaintiffs seeking equal marriage treatment. Ted Olson of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and Roberta Kaplan of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison represented the plaintiffs in this past year's Supreme Court cases challenging California's Proposition 8 and DOMA, respectively.
