Officials said the posts were written by individuals “outside the Mizzou community in an attempt to create conflict.”
University of Missouri officials on Saturday distanced the college from social media posts complaining that media coverage of the Paris terrorist attacks was diverting attention from protests on campus.
Following Friday's attacks, which killed at least 129 people in the French capital, some Twitter users shared posts that sought to draw comparisons between the two events.
Many right-wing websites and blogs shared what they said were screenshots of some of the tweets.
But university officials said the tweets were made from individuals "outside the Mizzou community."
"Social media posts expressing dismay that the tragedy in Paris is diverting media attention from events at the University of Missouri are being made by individuals from outside the Mizzou community in an attempt to create conflict," university officials said in a statement Saturday.
"Our hearts go out to the citizens of Paris and all those affected by the tragic events of last night. While our community has faced difficulties over the past week, we express our sincere sympathy to those who have been affected by the events in Paris and remain committed to making Mizzou stronger and more inclusive," officials said.
University of Missouri System Leaders resigned earlier this week after protests by black students over their handling of alleged incidents of racism on campus.
The protests have also spread to other campuses around the country, with many students marching in solidarity with their Mizzou counterparts.
Writing on Twitter on Friday evening, Black Lives Matter movement leader Deray Mckesson said protesters were capable of caring about several issues simultaneously.

Snapchat today began charging its users 99 cents to use some of its popular selfie filters, sparking outrage.
The filters, a relatively new feature, are replaced on a fairly consistent basis. Until now, the popular filters that Snapchat removed in favor of their replacements were inaccessible. Now the company is bringing some back — at a cost.
Some of Snapchat's users were (predictably) enraged, letting the company have it on Twitter:
Snapchat takes a, let's say, different approach on Twitter from most other companies. Instead of ignoring the angry posts or apologizing, the company retweeted them:
Selling selfie lenses, of course, is a good way for Snapchat to make money outside of advertising, introducing an alternative revenue source that will make it a bit easier for the company to justify its multi-billion dollar valuation. Snapchat also offers its users the ability to replay snaps at a cost as well.
According to a report in The Verge, Snapchat will always keep about seven selfie filters for free. It will offer 30 lenses for sale each day as well.

“I envisioned every face that I have ever loved and whispered I love you.”
You never think it will happen to you. It was just a Friday night at a rock show. The atmosphere was so happy and everyone was dancing and smiling. And then when the men came through the front entrance and began the shooting, we naively believed it was all part of the show. It wasn't just a terrorist attack, it was a massacre. Dozens of people were shot right in front of me. Pools of blood filled the floor. Cries of grown men who held their girlfriends dead bodies pierced the small music venue. Futures demolished, families heartbroken. In an instant.
Shocked and alone, I pretended to be dead for over an hour, lying among people who could see their loved ones motionless. Holding my breath, trying to not move, not cry - not giving those men the fear they longed to see. I was incredibly lucky to survive. But so many didn't. The people who had been there for the exact same reasons as I - to have a fun Friday night were innocent. This world is cruel. And acts like this are suppose to highlight the depravity of humans and the images of those men circling us like vultures will haunt me for the rest of my life. The way they meticulously aimed at shot people around the standing area I was in the centre of without any consideration for human life. It didn't feel real. I expected any moment for someone to say it was just a nightmare.
